Lets Dance To The Rhythm.
Bahrain is witnessing a surge in Goan activities in recent days. The Young Goans Club had a successful Masquerade Ball, earlier this month, and have announced the celebration of traditional San Joao festivities in June. Another social group, The Crab Entertainment have also announced their annual San Joao.
Amidst all this, Xit-Koddi is proud to be associated with the screening of the award-winning Konkani movie 'Nachom-ia Kumpasar' on June 5 at Al Hamra Cinema, Bahrain. In these five years of publication, this becomes our important and memorable association with promotion of Konkani and with our Community in Bahrain.
It has been our endeavour throughout to promote our culture and identity, and we hope that this recent series of events will resonate with all Goans in Bahrain. Let’s ‘Nachom-ia Kumpasar’ - Dance to the The Rhythm of goodwill and friendship.

Hailing from Raia, Curtorim, he leaves behind his wife Leena Martins and son Vernon. He was 53. Clifford Correia has been following the case of his death with the respective authorities. Our condolences to his family and may his soul rest in peace.
Churchill Alemao in Bahrain: Churchill Alemao, the strong man of South Goa, was in Bahrain on short private visit. Churchill was the Chief Minister of Goa for a brief period in the early 1990s, and later became an MP representing South Goa. He was the PWD Minister in the Congress Govt. Of Goa led by Digambar Kamat, that lost the election in 2012. Churchill is the patron of the 'Churchill Bros' football team. During his stay on the island, he met several members of the Goan Community and also visited the Young Goans Club, interacting with the club members and apprising them of several aspects taking place in Goa, damaging to our identity.
To a question from our editor as to what Goans in and outside Goa should do to preserve our traditions, culture and identity, he was quick to respond, stating that Goans in Goa must speak our mother tongue Konkani at all levels, and Goans, who are outside Goa must invest a little of their earnings in land in Goa. This will help in preserving Goa in accordance with the desire of our forefathers, he concluded. Churchill is seen in the above picture alongside YGC president Noel Feranandes, vice-president Steven Dias and Mrs. Alemao talking to members and guests at the Young Goans Club.

Sea Planes In Goa: The Goa Government went ahead with the plan to encourage tourism amid protests by fishermen and conducted trial of sea plane landing on Mandovi river in the heart of the state on May 23. Despite agitations, Goa Tourism minister Dilip Parulekar decided to go ahead with this unique proposal by giving the nod to the flight of the first ever 9-seater plane, from Dabolim airport, to successfully land in River Mandovi. Goa is the second State after Maharashtra where the amphibian seaplanes are launched. Commercial operations are expected to begin in September, this year.

Fans and Konkani lovers in Bahrain are agog with news of the scheduled screening of the award-winning Konkani movie " Nachom-ia Kumpasar" at 6 p.m. on June 5 at the Al Hamra Cinema in Manama.
Bahrain is all set to see a packed hall for a ‘Konkani show’ after a long, long time. And why not? The response to the film has been overwhelming with shows running to full houses everywhere ever since its premier last November. Some passionate fans are said to have watched the film 5 to 6 times while some have even watched it as many as 25 times and still going!
‘Nachom-ia Kumpasar’ (Let’s Dance to the Rhythm) is woven together with 20 timeless Konkani songs of the 60s and 70s written by legendary Chris Perry and sung by Goa’s nightingale Lorna. Ronnie Monserrate and Jackson Pereira are credited with the musical score. The film won plaudits at the 62nd National Film Awards in India recently, bagging the Best Production Design and Best Film awards besides winning a Special Merit for its female lead actress Palomi Ghosh.
An interesting factoid about the film is that it was made on a budget of Rs 3.5 crores that was raised by its makers through crowd-funding. The film is produced by Angelo Braganza and directed by advertisement filmmaker Bardroy Barretto.
The plot of Nachom-ia Kumpasar is revealed through the love affair of a composer-musician (Vijay Maurya playing the lead), and his protégé (Palomi Ghosh), loosely based on a love affair that most Goans draw a parallel to -- a real-life account of Lorna and Chris Perry.
Speaking recently in an interview, Bardroy said: “As a child, I remember listening to Lorna and Chris Perry’s music and that is what led to the film. The more I researched, the more I realized that their songs had a story to tell...The songs speak volumes…The normal approach is to write a story and then place songs into the story, but in this case, we first made a play list and then planted the scenes in the movie. It was a completely opposite approach... We wanted the songs to be the heroes of the movie which we have succeeded in achieving to a great extent. We hope the younger generation will come and watch the film, and feel the experience of what Goa was years back....”
The show in Bahrain is presented by Cineco - Bahrain Cinema Company in association with our newsletter ‘Xit-Koddi’. Expat Properties are the main sponsors and tickets are available at the Young Goans Club between 6 to 9 p.m. For a more detailed report on the film, visit:

By Chris Noronha. On Thursday May 21, over 300 members and guests assembled at the Elite Resort and Spa to participate in the Young Goans Club Masquerade Ball. The beautifully draped marquee tent with chandeliers were admired by all as they stepped into a magical and mystical world of some Arabian night-themed oasis. The theme of the evening was apparent as men and women resplendent in their finery entered wearing their distinctive masks, some having created their own designs.
A Happy Hour to entice early arrivals had the desired effect as scores of people thronged the island bar. The witty repartee of Asst. Entertainment Secretary Kevin D’Cunha along with the tunes played by The Expats and DJ Bosco of SNS ensured that all were entertained throughout the evening. The highlight of the Masquerade Ball was the crowning of the Masquerade King and Queen which was won by August Fernandes and Katia Rodrigues respectively. Several other prizes were distributed for contests held throughout the evening thus ensuring that a fun time was had by all, so much so that in fact there were calls for continuation to the DJ by the late night revelers who would not leave the dance floor even when the music had stopped. The next event on the Young Goans calendar is the Feast of San Joao on Friday, 12 June. Stay tuned and log on to the Young Goans Club Bahrain page on Facebook or contact members on mobile nos. 33204141, 39164579, 39901147 or 39123820.
Will Goan Teams Keep The Momentum: Salcette United broke the jinx of Goan teams not winning the finals in football in open Indian Expatriate football tournaments, when they emerged winners of the 8-A-Side football tournament played at the Al Ahli Club grounds in Zinj on May 1. Incidentally, Salcette United were the organizers of this day-long tournament, in which 10 Indian teams participated.
The Goan teams have the chance of keeping this momentum as Salcette United, JMJ Bardez Boys and FC Goa (Bahrain) are among the ten Indian expatriate teams participating in the Champions Cup 2015 organized by ShowStoppers FC. The final round of this 7-A-Side football tournament is scheduled for June 12, at the Winners Football Centre, Isa Town.
