Footprints of Goans In Bahrain By

A longtime resident of Bahrain. Presently employed with a leading travel agency. Chairman of Bahrain Goans Football League played under the patronage of Young Goans Club - the only registered institution of Goans in Bahrain. Has served on the managing committee of this club for several terms on different posts. Always at the forefront in organising cultural, social, charitable and sporting activities among the Goan community of Bahrain. A popular MC hosting many of the Goan social and cultural events in Bahrain. A former reporter of the now defunct konkani daily 'Novem Goem', he is the recipient of the Man of The Year 2006 Award from the Goan Review Art Foundation, Mumbai that promotes Konkani language and culture. The Goa Govt recognised his services by conferring on him the 'Global Goans Community Service Leadership Award' in the year 2008. Involved in toastmasters international, he is the Vice President - Public Relations of MJS Toastmasters International, Bahrain. An active member of the Konkani Community at the Sacred Heart Church, Bahrain.
John Rebello
John Rebello, himself is among the many Goans leaving footprints in Bahrain. A longtime resident of Bahrain engaged in travel industry through a prestigious business house. He is an active parishioner at Sacred Heart Church, involved in a wide range of church activities. He took the initiative of starting the Konkani Charishmatic Prayer Group in the year 1997 under the guidance of the then Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Felicio Diniz and Spiritual Director Rev. Fr. Oswin Fernandes. This group which was started with few members has grown in numbers and meets every Sunday evenings. Mr. Rebello is the recipient of the Papal Honor "Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice" from the late Pope John Paul II, in the Jubilee Year 2000. As the Coordinator of the Church bulletin - Outreach, his skills in writing are well known. An ardent lover of Konkani has contributed articles for the Goan Review and as a youngster rendered his voice to sing in Konkani Tiatrs. Thanks to Mr. Rebello for volunteering to cover this column for Xit-Koddi. Through this column he will track footprints of many Goans in this Kingdom.
