Agnivo & Dadsy Martins
There are very few persons, who will make a meaningful relationships with people around them, and give and seek friendship, love, attention and approval in a social context. One such couple Xit-Koddi has come across within our community in Bahrain is Agnivo and Dadsy Martins. The ever-patriotic Goan couple, that has often patronized and assisted organizers of Goan events in Bahrain, is scheduled to bid goodbye to Bahrain shortly.
Agnivo arrived in Bahrain in the year 1975, to work for EurEast Trading as a Manager. His employment with the same company till today for over 40 years, speaks volumes of his dedication and loyalty to the company. He was with the Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Dadar, Mumbai, in their administrative office for 5 years before taking up employment in Bahrain. Dadsy joined her husband Agnivo in Bahrain with their 9 month-old son, Anush in 1981. Seven years later, their daughter Muriel was born in Bahrain. Dadsy initially worked with A.K. Almoayed and then joined Deeko Bahrain, where she has worked for over 21 years as Sales Coordinator. Both their children did their initial schooling in Bahrain, completed their graduation in Goa and moved back to Bahrain for employment. Their son Anush is now settled in Australia with his wife Joann and son Asher, whereas daughter Muriel has recently moved to the United Kingdom with her husband, Jason Rebello. Agnivo became a member of Young Goans Club soon after his arrival into Bahrain. Agnivo and Dadsy hold the club in high esteem as a meeting and socializing place for all Goans on the island. The couple always made it a point to support Goan activities in Bahrain by their presence as well as by lending a helping hand to the organizers. With her flair for cooking Goan dishes, Dadsy will be missed as a regular supporter of the ‘Goan Cuisine’ at the Sacred Heart Church Annual Family Day. ‘We will fondly miss the Church and Club activities. Over the years, Bahrain has become our first home. All the friends that we made in Bahrain have turned into a large family for us. The good old days at Young Goans Club will always reign in our hearts. The kind and loving people of Bahrain will never be forgotten’, said the couple to Xit-Koddi. The couple, originally from Baga, Velim, now has a sweet home in Navelim. Xit-Koddi wishes Agnivo and Dadsy a peaceful and happy future as they move into next stage of life.
LUCAS R. COLACO
Many will remember Lucas R. Colaco, hailing from Boctavaddo, Chorao Goa. He spent 23 years in Bahrain - from 1976 to 1999. Lucas was employed with the British Bank of the Middle East (now HSBC) as Trade Finance Officer during his tenure in Bahrain. He loved to socialise with our community and held the posts of Assistant Treasurer and Secretary of Young Goans Club (YGC) for two different terms. He had a serious car accident in Bahrain, which led to his leaving the island for good.
Rose his wife, an enthusiastic darts player had won many darts tournament held under the banner of Young Goans Club. She worked with Arabian Aviation and the couple had three children, who were all born in Bahrain. Their elder daughter Cherie, works for Hawker Pacific as a Senior Logistics Administrator in Jebel Ali and the other daughter Charmaine, works for Citibank as a Trainer in Dubai. Their son Cyrus is in Goa working for HDFC bank for brokerage and securities. Lucas recollects the glorious days at YGC. ”Bahrain is like our second home because during our time YGC was buzzing with all kinds of activity like the celebration of village feasts like the Bandra fest, as also dances, games, hockey, football etc. YGC, I am sure, all will agree was the best club among the other expatriate clubs in the Kingdom” sighed, Lucas.. When Lucas retired and came back to Goa at the age of 60, he renovated and rented out a few shops in Porvorim. At present he is thoroughly enjoying his retired life. Says Lucas: “The struggle that we all faced being away from our home country now seems worth it. I am reliving my younger years by meeting up with relatives and friends, going on fishing trips, Tiatrs and celebrating everything Goa has to offer. I also occasionally do volunteer work such as being recently the treasurer at our local church. I feel, it is very important to give back to the community”. His message to Goans in Bahrain is: “You all know Goans in our beloved Goa are diminishing in numbers, day by day and our Goykarponn is disappearing as more and more migrants are coming in, as if it is like the "Gulf" for them. My advice to those who are returning to Goa and who love Goa: please save your hard earned money for your retirement and if you have some skills, start a small business so that you can get a regular income and your savings will not get depleted”, lamented Lucas with seriousness in his tone. He complimented Xit-Koddi, for the hard work and dedication that the Editor and the team are doing in connecting Goans worldwide. In a very special way he thanked GR Crasto, John Rebello and offered his best wishes for providing the readers with informative and refreshing news about the Goan community in Bahrain. He also sends his wishes to all Goans working in Bahrain and especially to Francis Correia and Pio Fernandes.
Lucas has been kind enough to allow us to publish his contact no. (9921944100) and his email id (lrcolaco@yahoo.com,) for the convenience of those who may wish to contact him.
