Jr. Luis Anthony Co-Director of "Bahrainche Goykar 3"
Speaks to Xit-Koddi
As a part of our Quiz on musical show ‘Bahrainche Goykar 3’, Xit-Koddi interviewed the Director Jr. Louis Anthony based on questions sent in by our readers. We are pleased to share his thoughts with our community:
Xit-Koddi (XK) : Louis, since your arrival in Bahrain in 1999, you have been a part of almost all Konkani programs besides directing your own full fledged drama ‘Anv Kollokant Sandlom' and several other plays with different titles. But why are you stuck with the title “Bahrainche Goykar’, even when you have artistes from Goa and other places ? What is the purpose of this ?
Jr. Louis (JL): First of all, thanks to Xit-Koddi for highlighting my work. As to the question, yes, artistes may be from different places but it is my aim to draw as many Goans as possible together in Bahrain for entertainment in our mother tongue Konkani. This is surely the best gathering of Goans in Bahrain. Thus, is the name 'Bahrainche Goykar' and its purpose.
XK: Your wife Lurdin, supports you in acting and singing and so also your daughter Austina plays minor roles. Surely they must be an inspiration. However, who inspires you the most to stage shows in Bahrain in spite of all obstacles?
JL: Yes, God has blessed me with wife and daughter who loves my art. It is a major inspiration to have all family members getting involved in my shows. Staging a show in Bahrain is a challenging task. It is the actors, musicians and several volunteers who help me to overcome all obstacles. I must mention here the name of Francis Correia. Not only to me, but for any Goan programs in Bahrain, he always lends his outstanding support.
XK: You introduce new faces and youngsters in all your shows. Don’t you fear that these new comers may fail to deliver to the expectations of the audience or that they may be a negative impact on the overall rating of your show ?
JL: Recognizing the talent in our children and training them, will never let you down. They have twinkled like tiny stars in my shows in the past and in ‘Bahrainche Goykar 3’ – Watch Out – they are set to surprise you !
XK: What about the audience support ? You have guests coming for the show from Saudi Arabia, U.A.E, Qatar and even Goa. It’s an amazing show of support for you. What have you to say about it ?
JL: Without audience, my work will be ZERO. The good turn-out in the past is the success story of my shows. I am overjoyed with guests coming for the Show from different parts and that itself, is an instigation to put up a better performance than the previous shows.
XK: So, what difference will the audience find in this show, than your past shows ? Any
surprises ? Is there any message to convey to your audience through this show ? What you feel the audience will think about the show, as they drive back home ?
JL: Well the major difference, I can say is that I have always played comedy roles in my shows, this time I have Agostin-Janet-Selvy – the 3 best comedians from Goa to give the best to the audience. And this is a musical show with each song delivering a different message. I am making all efforts for the audience to say ‘Bahrainche Goykar 3’ was worth making time for.
XK: You have a powerful political singer Olga Vaz in your show, who even takes names of Goan political figures. It is a paradox, that you also have a politician Churchill Alemao from Goa as chief guest for the show. Why is this contradiction ? JL: I look at Shri Churchill Alemao as strong pillar of Konkani language. His sacrifices for Konkani agitation are well known. I feel proud that such a tall personality has agreed to be the chief guest for my show.
XK: There are few Goan social groups in Bahrain but you are holding this show in association with Indian Club. What made you approach them ?
JL: Indian Club has a beautiful hall and a fantastic stage well suited for a musical show. It was my desire to have the show in this hall and when I approached them, they showed great interest in supporting the show and assured all assistance. They have even allowed their courtyard for car parking on that day. I am overwhelmed with their enthusiasm and thank them for the support.
XK: And one last question. Recently along with your co-director Claude Farrier, you traveled to Kuwait to participate in a musical show. It is rumored that you sang a song distorting the image of our community in Bahrain. Is it true ? And will you be singing the same song in this show ? JL: Many people have watched the song I sang in Kuwait on social media. I am scheduled to sing the same song for some tiatrs in Goa, hence I requested the one who posted on social media to remove it. The rumors remind me of a very old popular song of Menino De Bandar. Permit me to end this dailogue with the last four lines of his song, which can be a good response to all these rumors.
XK: Yes, go ahead.
JL: Dolleantlim dukam pita, tachech pill tem rochta, tem suknem zaun asa to mor
Tiatrist tiatr kadta, te zaite zannank lagta, tumim tumkam korunk favonam sor
Apleachech thondan sangta, uprant dubhav vompta, tum dakoun dita aponn mhunnon chor Ugodd tuje dolle, ho musical show tum polle, tum sot mandnaka tuka lagta tor.
