Entertainment for Bahrain Goans
The Goans Club in Bahrain was the focal point of activity for our community in the past. The club used to celebrate everything and anything related to Goa, including Goan village feasts. And these activities used to bring Goans on the island closer to each. Restrictions on activities of expatriate clubs by the authorities have slowed down this trend to a very great extent over the years.
However, in the coming two months, it seems there will be a buzz of Goan activity on the island:
= the Club is hosting World Goa Day and Bandra Fair, followed by a football tournament and a Konkani musical show - all this in the month of September.
= yet another Konkani musical show announced for October by Jr. Luis and Claude Farrier.
= November will see Goan devotees gathering at church for novenas and the feast of Goencho Saib.
= several Goan groups organize festive activities during December, and this year too, expectations are sky-high.
We, at Xit-Koddi, look forward to these coming months to see our community members celebrate and forge bonds of unity and solidarity.
Yours truly

Top Artistes To Perform In Bahrain: Some of the well known Konkani stage artistes are scheduled to perform in Bahrain over the next two months. Seby De Divar will join other actors from Kuwait in Maestro Shahu Almeida’s musical show ‘Tiatristponn Devachem Dennem’ . The show hosted by Young Goans Club, will be held at Baan Saeng Thai Restaurant in Adliya on September 29. At the same venue on October 27, Jr. Luis Anthony and Claude Farrier will present ‘Bahrainche Goykar 3’. The show will feature Queen of Political Songs Olga Vaz, Benny De Aldona and the comedy trio of Augustine-Janet-Selvy from Goa. Lanisha and Delisha from Dubai will be back in Bahrain with popular demand to perform in this show. Bahrain based artistes will also form part of ‘Bahrainche Goykar 3’ musical show.
Properties of NRI’s in Goa: The Minister for NRI Affairs, Avertano Furtado disclosed in the recently concluded monsoon session of Goa Assembly that the state administration is unaware about many properties of non-resident Goans and their houses in Goa being sold without their knowledge by forging of the documents. However, the government maintained that the details of landed properties of those NRIs and persons of Goan origin, who have submitted the details of their properties in the state, have been forwarded to the district collectors and the taluka sub-registrars in order to prevent manipulation of land records and execution of fraudulent sale deeds, if any. The minister said the state NRI Cell maintains a list of NRIs and people of Goan origin, who register themselves so as to obtain Goa cards.
Konkani Tiatrs and Films Online: In what is seen as a digital revolution in the Goan entertainment area, the Goan Diaspora that has little or no access to recent Konkani movies and tiatr can now enjoy Konkani movies, dramas, short films and music in the confines of their homes with the launch of Konkani entertainment website www.goenchobalcao.com by the WHN Digital. Home Sweet Home-1, produced by Swapnil Shetkar, is the first movie to be released on the portal. The online portal allows one to commercially view content but not download it, thus minimizing unauthorized uploading of Konkani entertainment on the internet and allowing filmmakers to control their creative and intellectual property while digitally marketing their content.

No Alcohol Consumption Zones in Goa: Rampant with complaints about drinking of alcohol on beaches, roads and highways and in public areas by tourists, the Goa government has introduced a new amendment to state excise law which recommends identification of ‘no alcohol consumption zones’ across Goa. Government is receiving a number of complaints of consumption of liquor in open spaces, public places, beaches, public roads, state and national highways, mostly by visiting tourists. According to the bill, no person shall consume alcohol in a ‘no alcohol consumption zone’ and those who do can be fined Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 10,000.

wished him many more successful years with Al Rashid Group (ARG). That was for his felicitation by the company for his long service with them. Once again, the dedicated employee was in the news, as he was presented with Certificate of Appreciation and Gratitude on completion of 22 years of meritorious service with ARG. Eric is seen here receiving the certificate and award from Mr. Russel, the territory head of Mothercare. Eric, hailing from Ucassaim, joined the ARG in 1994 as a Salesman and his keen interest in the job has taken him up the ladder and is presently holding the post of Supervisor. We are glad to feature this Goan, once again in our newsletter and to compliment him on his achievements with the company.
CAJIE PEREIRA“If you have the capital and the dedication you can be a successful businessman in your home town”. This is the clear message for all Goans settled in Bahrain and elsewhere, and are making plans to return to Goa for good in the near future. The message comes from long-time ex-resident of Bahrain, Cajie Pereria. He was employed with the Nass Group as Project Manager for 28 long years until 2008. He was with Ahmed Mansoor A’Ali during his last two years in Bahrain. Cajie hails from Pajimol, Sanguem, in South Goa and is married to Philomena. They are blessed with three sons. The eldest, Prisford is an Electronics and Telecom Engineer, working for Larsen &Turbo in Pune. Prisford recently got married to Valencia Diniz, also an Electronics and Telecom Engineer with Accenture, Pune. The second son, Clifton with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering, is working with Amphenol Ltd. in U.K. Royston, the youngest son is a 3rd year student of Electronics and Telecom Engineering in Goa. Since returning to Goa, Cajie has established himself as a successful businessman. He is now the Managing Director of ‘Prince Real Estate’ that keeps him busy and happy meeting different kinds of people in this venture. This writer can recollect Cajie’s involvement with our community in Bahrain in several spheres. ‘Bahrain is my second home’ he told this writer. He was on the managing committee of the Young Goans Club and contributed his engineering services in renovating the old club premises as well as in establishing the new premises at Konkan Singers building. However, as I had witnessed and Cajie recollects, his most memorable service in Bahrain, was his involvement in the construction of the New Millennium Building of the Sacred Heart Church, Bahrain, during the tenure of former Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Felicio Diniz.Cajie was requested to give a message to Goans in Bahrain, and this is what he had to say. “I cannot forget the beautiful pearl of the Gulf, “Bahrain”, and all the lovely Goans working there. For Goans thinking of settling down in Goa in the near future, if you have the capital and the dedication you can start your own business in your hometown. Make sure that you have enough knowledge of the business you propose to start. Just retiring to Goa and sitting idle is of no use, it will have bad consequences on your health. It’s not only government jobs that can give you a good salary, there are ample other opportunities to generate income, and the sooner the better our Goans seize on these opportunities”, he concluded.

Reagan Juliao emerged the highest scorer of the league. The prize distribution ceremony was held at the Zenzenya Poolside with live band ‘CrossRoads’ in attendance. DJ Joyeton also spun discs at this well attended prize distribution ceremony. The footballers had a great day swimming, singing and dancing the day away, culminating with prize distribution. Osbin Pinto, Hilary Sanches, Bobby Fernandes, Raymond Barretto and Joy Corda were part of the organizing team of this event. Gulf Cup by YGC : Young Goans Club (YGC) will hold the Gulf Cup 7-A-Side One Day Football Tournament for Indian Nationals on September 12, during the Eid Al-Adha holiday, at Gulf Air Club ground in Salmabad. The organizing committee is seen in picture here during a meeting at YGC.‘Bomb’ in Salcette: The competition in football among Indian teams in Bahrain has reached a new height with several tournaments being held round the year. The Goan football teams on the island have shown a great determination to strengthen their squads by roping in players of quality. The recent signing in, of Agnelo D’Souza by Salceltte United FC is one such example. Agnelo hailing from Cansaulim, popularly known as ‘Bomb’ for his lethal and fiery strikes will be sporting the colors of Salcette from this season. Besides playing for several inter-village teams in Goa, he has also played for premier clubs, such as Dempo, Vasco and Sporting Club De Goa.
