Bringing Back Mortal Remains From Abroad: The Union Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) has developed a software module to facilitate the transportation of mortal remains of deceased emigrants in Emigration Check Required (ECR) countries like Malaysia, Kuwait, Jordan, Iraq, UAE, Bahrain, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Sudan, Afghanistan, Qatar, Indonesia, Oman, Syria, Libya, and Thailand. This software module is now available on MOIA’s website (www.moia.gov.in). Instead of family members running from pillar to post, trying to get hold of State Government authorities to transport the body back to India, they can now apply online for transportation of mortal remains of the deceased emigrant in any of the above mentioned ECR countries. They can also track the status online till the deceased is returned home. On completion of the online application, the Indian Missions located in the country, from where the body is to be brought back, will start processing those cases. The Goa Government has notified District Collectors and District Superintendents of Police of North and South Goa Districts as Nodal Officers on the civil side and police side. The public is therefore advised that if any assistance is required, they may get in touch with these authorities.
Award To Pio Fernandes: Tujea Moga Khaitr is a book of Konkani poems released by Pio Fernandes in August 2013. In the poems Pio recollects memories of his wife Joyce, who died in tragic circumstances in 2012. His quest for an answer from the Almighty for the cross in his life is well expressed in his poems. “This book is a tribute to my wife”, Pio told Xit-Koddi, at the time of its release. We feel proud to congratulate Pio, as he has been chosen for an award by the All India Konkani Writers Organizations for this book of poems in Romi script. The award will be presented to him at a function at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, on October 26. Our best wishes to Pio on behalf of the Bahrain Goan Community.

Gabriel arrived in Bahrain in 1977 to work for East Workshop, and shifted to Almoayed Air-conditioning six years later. He worked with Almoayed Air-conditioning for 15 years and then moved to Delta Aluminum and Casting Factory, where he worked as Sales Manager until his decision to return to Goa. Xit-Koddi wishes Gabriel success in all his plans.
FAME - A Great Success: A red carpet event entitled 'FAME' was held at the Baan Saeng Thai Auditorium at Adliya on October 2, 2014. A crowd of 270 enjoyed an evening in a luxurious and elegant setting created by the organizers, Eric, Gavin and Orace. It was a night of glitz and glamour for guests as they walked down the red carpet. The event featured entertainment by Bahrain's leading bands The Night Shades and Gravity in addition to DJ Philip spinning the discs. 'The walk down the red carpet was to make our guests feel like celebrities', said one of the organizers. An evening of good music, good food and loads of prizes, is how some of the attendees described the event. The organizers appreciated the support of sponsors and thanked the gathering for making this event a huge success.
...…that in his railway budget speech this year, Union Railway minister D V Sadananda Gowda announced a "semi high speed train" on the Goa-Mumbai route, increasing the speed to 160-200kmph to be achieved by upgrading the present network?

John & Hazel Rebello (Goa): It was a
sad day on 30th of July, 2013, when my wife Hazel and I, with heavy hearts, left the beautiful island of Bahrain to settle down in our beautiful Goa, after having toiled to earn our livelihood for 23 years. We are grateful to God for blessing us with good health and employment in Bahrain. We will cherish forever our spiritual growth in the Catholic faith through various retreats, preachers and other activities at the Sacred Heart Church (SHC). We remember with gratitude Rev. Fr. Felicio Diniz who was instrumental in encouraging me and supporting me at SHC parish, and the memorable gift which I received in the Jubilee Year 2000, the Papal Honor - "Pro Ecclesia Et Pontific" from Blessed Pope John Paul II. I am also indebted to the members of Young Goans Club, and the Bahrain Goans who appreciated us and gave us the opportunity to be with them during their social and sporting activities. Yes, being in Goa has not made me forget Bahrain, for I am always in touch through Facebook and through the monthly e-newsletter Xit-Koddi.
(Editors note: John Rebello assisted us in writing the column ‘Footprints of Goans in Bahrain’, while he was a resident of Bahrain.)
Cavin Braganza (Bahrain): Xit-Koddi is a great source of information on activities in Bahrain. I applaud the work of the team in highlighting Goans in Bahrain who are successful in different aspects of life, specially in the coverage given to our Goan children. Keep up the good work.
Louis Couto (Goa): I came across your website and it’s really good. Congrats to the team. I am scheduled to come to Bahrain next month for a job. I would really appreciate if someone can help me get a one-bedroom apartment on rent near Riffa. (Editor’s note: If anyone can assist, kindly email us on bahrain.goans@hotmail.com)
Diamond Jubilee Of Sacred Heart Church.
Remembering Fr. Felicio Diniz
The Sacred Heart Church (SHC), where Fr. Felicio Diniz served for 15 long years (1989-2004), is bringing to a close its Diamond Jubilee celebrations in November 2014, and this is the opportune time to salute this son of Goa for the footprints he has left on the minds and in the hearts of the large Catholic Community of Bahrain. He is largely responsible for the comfort and facilities available for the faithful at SHC, which have made this a vibrant parish.
Fr. Diniz was ordained by His Holiness Late Pope John Paul II, and arrived in Bahrain in 1989. He took up the renovation of Mother Church and completed the same to coincide with the Golden Jubilee celebrations in 1990. The services at SHC were held outdoors in hot humid and winter cold conditions, and Fr. Diniz recognized the need for a comfortable place for the devotees to pray. He planned, and built, the Multipurpose Hall and the adjacent Kindergarten School by 1991. He continued his work of improvement of the facilities, building a new convent for the Comboni Sisters. He later modified and refurbished the Parish Hall, formerly known as Baaths Hall. In 1996, under his leadership, the Parish Community Centre was set up, which now houses offices of the priests, classrooms for catechism classes and a venue for meetings of parish communities and the parish canteen. Yet another noteworthy project Fr. Diniz completed for the parish was the Third Millennium Building. This building now features a state-of-the art auditorium, social hall and residential quarters for the priests. His final project was the renovation of the Mother Church with a wooden structure replacing the crumbling wall paint, and the opening of the Chapel for Adoration of Blessed Sacrament. Fr. Diniz introduced many activities, both spiritual and social, for the pastoral needs of the parishioners, including the annual Family Day, which continues to be celebrated till today, with great enthusiasm and in a family atmosphere. He also launched the parish monthly newsletter ‘Family Bulletin’. In spite of his busy schedule with church activities, Fr. Diniz always made it a point to grace important events of the Goan community with his presence, and the community held him in high esteem. Bahrain Goans even had a football league tournament named after him. Perhaps it was his close rapport with the community, that led to the Young Goans Club being instrumental in donating a memorable gift to the Multipurpose Hall - ‘The Tabernacle’ - on behalf of the Goan Community of Bahrain.
Fr. Felicio went on Sabbatical leave to pursue further studies in 2004, and returned to Bahrain in 2008 as the Parish Priest of the Church of Our Lady of the Visitation at Awali. He served this parish until 2012 and then moved on to the United Arab Emirates. He is presently serving at St. Michael’s Church in Sharjah.
