World Cup Delays Xit-Koddi
The engagement of Xit-Koddi team in the Bahrain Goans ‘FIFA World Cup 2018’ delayed the publishing of this issue. However, the enthusiastic participation of over 150 members in this competition has thrilled us and we plan to come out more often with such competitions.
Here is your Xit-Koddi of July & August 2018 for your reading pleasure, while we have not so good news from Goa about Xit-Koddi. With formalin used for preserving fish and news of plastic eggs in the market, Goans are lost in thoughts as to what comes on their plate with Xit-Koddi. Let us hope that our authorities will act responsibly considering the health and safety of Goans.

Luwell – The Goan Jewel
Supporters of any events or many-a-times, even donors for charity want exposure for themselves, for their services or products. On the other hand there are benefactors who silently support various causes without expecting anything in return. Whatever they do, they do for their own satisfaction. Compassion purely motivates their actions. They have no ulterior motive. One such member of our Goan Community in Bahrain is Luwellyn (Luwell) D’Souza. Luwell, shies away from glare of public attention but his name features in the supporters list of almost all social and cultural events organised by Young Goans Club (YGC). He is perhaps, the only YGC member who has regularly supported the events of this institution, irrespective of who heads the managing committees. A tiatr aficionado, Luwell always volunteers to assist the staging of Konkani dramas in Bahrain. His name for goodwill and generosity is found in several other works in Bahrain. The other noteworthy aspect of this respected gentleman is that he will never accept complimentary seats/entrance for the events he supports but will pay and patronize the same. The YGC President Noel Fernandes is seen in the picture, honoring this humble Goan with a memento for his continuous support to club activities.
Luwell and his wife Annette are in Bahrain for the last 30 years. Hailing from Saligao, Luwell is employed with Al Jazira Cold Store Company since his arrival in Bahrain in 1976.
Xit-Koddi salutes Luwell D’Souza for his contribution in supporting our community events. ‘You have certainly earned a lot of love and prayers’.
Prestigious YGC Blazer Presented To Steven Dias
Your association with any club or institution helps you to work as a team. You may have people of diverse views as team members but all in all, your aim is to contribute to your community. It is a thankless job and sometimes there may not be any form of recognition. Yet, it was a pleasant gesture by Young Goans Club (YGC) in honouring their vice-president Steven Dias for his service to the club in the last three years. He was presented with the prestigious YGC Blazer during the May Queen Ball held on May 10 at the Indian club auditorium in Manama. The YGC president Noel Fernandes, who presented the blazer to Steven, is seen in the picture. Steven was nominated for the fourth consecutive term as vice-president of YGC at the general body meeting held in March 2018. A vivid football lover, he has the credit of managing Canacona and Nuvem village teams in Bahrain for a pretty long period of time. A strong lover of tiatrs, he maintains good affinity with Konkani artistes and has been instrumental in staging dramas of professional tiatrists in Bahrain. Since his nomination on the executive committee of YGC, Steven has used his aptitude to benefit the club. His passion towards our culture and identity has seen him at the forefront of organising activities related to Goan customs and traditions. It is with his good efforts that YGC in the last couple of years has been able to put up some football as well as cricket tournaments and Konkani musical shows. It is not just his time and hard work that he puts in to make the events successful but many a times, he stands tall supporting the YGC activities even monetarily. Steven, hailing from Canacona is on the island for the last 40 years and runs his own business in electrical contracting. He is married to Sandra and is blessed with two sons and a daughter. His daughter Stacie and son Sanches are married and live in Bahrain, whereas his other son Sinclair lives in Australia.
Xit-Koddi (e-Newsletter of Bahrain Goans) CONGRATULATES Steven for the honour gained and hope to see his continued contribution to our community activities in Bahrain.
Aaron D’Costa – Little Goan Star In Bahrain
Exams are over and school’s out. And hundreds of children say to themselves, “Now what am I going to do with all this free time?” Sure, there are games to play, movies to watch, and friends to hang out with. But there are also plenty of productive things to do during the school holidays. Many children make use of the holidays to develop their inborn talents. Xit-Koddi (e-Newsletter of Bahrain Goans) is delighted to find one such Goan star in Bahrain – Aaron D’Costa.
Aaron, a multi-talented child has appeared several times in the columns of Xit-Koddi in the past. To be precise (XK – Feb 2014) winning the ‘You Got Talent’ Competition at Sacred Heart Church Family Day, (XK – Sept 2014) for his emotional influence in Konkani play ‘Mog Khuim Chuklo’ of Jr. Luis Anthony, (XK-Aug 2015) for his pencil drawings circulated on social media and (XK-Dec 2016) for scooping several academic awards at Sacred Heart School.
Once again the little star has amazed us with his magnificent painting in pastel, doing the rounds on social media. The picture appearing here, is his independent work mastered through YouTube guidance. The painting depicts from his recent memories of holidays in scenic Georgia.
Aaron, son of Bibiana & David D’Costa of Siolim, Goa is a Senior 2 student of Sacred Heart School. Xit-Koddi is happy to see Aaron, shining in several fields and pray that he may continue to develop the talents bestowed on him by the Almighty.
Harshmukund Ulhas Haldonkar - Little Goan Stars Keep Shining In Bahrain
It’s always nice to feel great when you know you’ve done something that makes your parents swell up with pride. There are several things children can do to bring happiness to their parents and developing their inborn talent is one such way. In line with this, we are brightened by another star litle Goan star – Harshmukund Ulhas Haldonkar.
Harshmukund, a 10th grade student of Indian School Bahrain, has been engrossed in pencil sketches and drawings from the age of 3. The encouragement by his parents Rajani and Ulhas has helped the boy to stack a large number of paintings and drawings of his own. He had the privilege of displaying his talent at the Spectra Art Competition, Toyota Midddle East Art Competition and Lions Club Inter-School drawing competition.
The family hails from Naikavaddo, Calangute, Goa. Xit-Koddi look forward to see Harshmukund continue to shine in his talent and wish him all the very best in the years ahead.
