Global Goan Alliance
Many of you must have heard about the World Goa Day celebrations by Goan Associations around the globe for several years now. These celebrations have focused on our language, culture and traditions, and helped to bring closer the worldwide Goan community. It has been the stepping-stone towards understanding and willingness of our community to work together towards a common goal.
These celebrations led to a feeling that a Global Alliance of Goan Associations could be formed. Indeed, a challenging idea! But not Impossible, judging from the fact that over the years, several Goan Associations from across the globe have come on board. This year, as the Goa Day celebrations have already begun in some parts of the world, it’s time to show our enthusiasm for building this alliance: an alliance to exchange information and experiences, and to strengthen the links of overseas Goans with their roots in Goa.
The Young Goan Club (YGC), Bahrain celebrates Goa Day on September 11. By making it a part of the World Goa Day celebrations this year, the Goan Community of Bahrain will forge closer links with Goans the world over, and we at Xit-Koddi, continue to strive to promote anything that is good for Goa and Goans!

OBITUARY
Home Sweet Home: There are very few Konkani films made every year, and at times, they lack consistency in terms of story-telling and craft. But Swapnil Shetkar’s latest venture Home Sweet Home is one that will strike a chord, especially with Goan audiences. Tackling the subject of migration and land sale, the young director makes some pertinent points. The film is about a common susegad Goykar, who fights against the system, and in the process exposes the biggest land scam of Goa. The Konkani Community of the Sacred Heart Church has arranged two shows of this film to be screened in Bahrain at the Our Lady of Arabia Auditorium. The shows are scheduled on October 8 at 7.30 p.m. and October 9 at 10 a.m. For further inquiries and invitation cards contact mobile nos. 39111223, 33778199, 36736383, 39659539, 33204141, 39694002, 39901147 or e-mail:gaspar4cap@gmail.com. The film is also to be screened in Kuwait (Sept. 18), Muscat (Sept 25) and Doha (Oct. 2).

Pio Fernandes (Bahrain): Bahrain Goans Facebook page and Xit-Koddi was the 'need of the hour' to quench the thirst of fellow Goans. The real taste of it will be experienced by our ex-Bahrain Goans. All those who had their prime time in Bahrain, especially at our Young Goans Club, can rest assured of reigniting of memories through these two entities. They can definitely feel at home once again through these two mediums.
Alvito Dias (Bahrain): Thanks a lot to GR Crasto and especially to Xit-Koddi that is giving us tasty and spicy news. Thanks to Bahrain Goans Facebook page for keeping all fellow Goans connected. God bless your good work and may Goan culture and traditions bring our community together on this island.

His Inspirational Quotes
Expressing concern over increasing number of people from Goa surrendering their Indian passports to opt for Portuguese citizenship, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that the state government was pursuing the issue with the External Affairs Ministry. He said that since dual citizenship (Indian and Portuguese) was not permissible by the law, several Goans were facing problems. "The state government will follow up the matter with the External Affairs Ministry on priority to redress the issue of dual citizenship," he said. He was responding to a question raised by BJP legislator Vishnu Surya Wagh at the ongoing session of Goa Assembly.

‘Amchim Bhurghim - Amchi Girestkai’ is a very common statement heard in parental conversations. And “I am so proud of you’ is a powerful compliment parents pay to their young children on their accomplishments in any field. As we at ‘Xit-Koddi’ reflect on this, we are glad to highlight the achievements of children of our community that merit a bouquet.
Cliryn Correia, son of Clifford and Rayna Correia, is a little star in football among our community. Clifford, who is actively involved with hockey and football on the island, got his son on the football field at the age of 8, assisting him in the logistics of the football grounds for international matches of the Bahrain Football Association involving Jordan, Japan and Indian women’s teams. It is here that Cliryn developed his love for football, and eventually became the only Indian player to play for the local club East Riffa, for their under-15 team. An 11th grade student at the Indian School, he also plays for the Riffa Challengers football team sponsored by FORD Al Moayyed Motors. He also plays for Salcette United in the Bahrain Goans football competitions. His
younger brother Clyde is also following in his footsteps, playing for the East Riffa Club in the sub-juniors. Cliryn is seen here receiving mementoes at one of the football tournaments. Xit-Koddi was impressed with the drawings (circulated on social media) of a talented little boy, Aaron D’Costa, who gives free rein to his several skills during the
holidays. A bright student with many awards in academics, he has also won prizes in singing competitions. However, this 10-year-old boy amazed us with his drawings of ‘The Leaning Tower of Pisa’ and ‘The Eiffel Tower’. Xit-Koddi joins his proud parents David and Bibiana D’Costa in saying ‘We are proud of you Aaron’.
Last but not the least; it was with great pride that my wife Cathie and I attended the convocation ceremony of our son, Gavin, at the Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland. The large number of greetings received on that occasion, makes the statement ‘Amchim Bhurghim - Amchi Girestkai’ truly meaningful.
