8th Anniversary of Xit-Koddi
The more we give, the happier we feel. You get a natural sense of accomplishment, when you do a bit for others and the community. It also gives you a sense of pride and identity. This has been our feeling as we celebrate the 8th anniversary of this e-newsletter Xit-Koddi.
Our happiness is intertwined with the well being of our community. There are things all of us can do to improve community well being, from getting to know our community members to supporting activities of our community. Our well-being increases when we regularly connect with our community members. Community network helps us avoid becoming isolated and provide a source of support. Xit-Koddi will continue to do, what it has been doing over the last eight years – connecting past and present Goans of Bahrain across the globe as a our little service towards to the community.
With Love !!!

Konkani Reading Competition – Winners A couple of years ago Dalgado Konknni
Akademi (DKA), an institution working for the upliftment of Konkani in Roman script, started a well-planned village-level Konkani Reading Competition and Konkani Awareness Programme all over Goa. Perhaps, inspired by this programme the Young Goans Club (YGC) had a Konkani Reading Competition as part of their World Goa Day 2018 celebrations on September 21 at the Baan Saeng Thai restaurant auditorium at Adliya, Bahrain. A good number of participants took part in this contest and Carmine Babra Pereira won the first prize of this first ever such competition in Bahrain. Edwin Dias was awarded second prize. The winners are seen in the picture receiving their prizes from Noel Fernandes, president of Young Goans Club. Certificates were presented to all participants.
Little Stars Light Up Tiatrs: ‘Pedru Portuguez’ a tiatr by Anthony Sylvester entertained a near full capacity crowd at the Indian Club auditorium on October 26. However, we pause for a moment and look back at the specific wonderful talent we witnessed of the two young sweethearts in the show. The brilliance they displayed at this tender young age, is worthy of applause. Ashica Mangel Fernandes, our little darling of Bahrain, who earned the title of ‘Mini Lorna’ at the recently held World Goa Day of Young Goans Club, once again drenched the hearts of the audience with her marvelous song in ‘Pedro Portuguez’. The audience rightly obliged to the request of Indian Club president Cassius Pereira and gave a standing ovation. Born and brought-up in Bahrain Ashica, the 2nd class student of Indian School Bahrain, is the daughter of Mecky and Ben Fernandes, hailing from Sarzora, Chinchinim. The visiting child artiste Jone Christo was equally amazing in his role of Portuguese child with his fluent Portuguese dialogue and remarkable acting. Later in his song, a tribute to legendary Alfred Rose, he displayed perfect skills of a ‘born to bloom’ Konkani star. His voice, confidence and style of singing was simply mind-blowing drawing a huge applause from the audience.
Earlier on Ocober 11, Jr. Luis Anthony, lived upto his reputation of presenting high quality Konkani programs in Bahrain with a blend of youth and experience in 'Nach Goykara Nach'. The visiting singers and comedians from Goa, gained accolades and were applauded for their every act and song. The Bahrain based singers added merriment to the show with their lively presentations. However, the teenage sensation Aaron D'Costa emerged as the little star of this show. With a professional approach, dancing and swinging to the beats of music, Aaron stole the limelight with his song 'Goychem Varem' drawing a thunderous applause from the audience. Aaron had also participated at the World Goa Day celebrations of Young Goans Club, presenting Konkani song 'Bhurghemponn' that too was greatly appreciated by the crowd.Xit-Koddi (e-Newsletter of Bahrain Goans) would like to put on record our admiration of Ashica Mangel Fernandes, Jone Christo and Aaron D'Costa for the great talent they exhibited in our mother tongue Konkani. Our appreciation goes out to the parents of these children for encouraging their children with the love of Konkani song and music.
