Are You Forwarding True or False Messages ?
More and more people are now getting on to social media like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube etc. There are several social media options that can be easily operated on mobile phones such as Whatsapp, Skype, Viber, Instagram. People use these advanced technological options to circulate news and forward messages without even verifying or confirming the source of the contents. Many times some unscrupulous elements fabricate news and messages with malicious intent. With morphing of photographs on computers being possible, there is every possibility of the wrong people being implicated in unsavory incidents. This leads to the possibility of spreading false information within our circle of friends with such unconfirmed matter.
Xit-Koddi would like to share a golden rule with our readers, and that is, when in doubt do not forward news, messages, videos , if there is no way of confirming the source of these items.

Queens To Invade Bahrain: The May Queen, or Queen of May, is normally a personification of the May Day holiday. However May Queen celebrations have different versions around the globe. In Bahrain, this year Young Goans and The Indian Club have lined up a May Queen Ball on May 18. The event by the Goans club will be held at the Swiss International Palace Hotel, Gudaibiya, whereas the Indian Club will hold their event at their own premises in Manama. The highlights of the event will be the crowning of May Queen. The contest will be judged on physical attributes of the contestants, personality traits, intelligence and talent. Besides the title of ‘May Queen’, loads of other prizes are on offer for the contestants. Club officials may be contacted for further details of these events.

feat through his profession in Bahrain. He ranked fifth in the Wild Turkey Legends Mixology competition held at Cafe Amsterdam, in Adliya on May 7. The annual competition was organised by Bahrain Bartenders Society. The competition brought together the best cocktail bartenders this beautiful island has to offer showcasing their skills in the art of creating the finest craft cocktails. Having qualified from the preliminary rounds of the competition, Henry notched up the fifth spot competing against Asian, European and American challengers in the finals. A great achievement indeed. Xit-Koddi congratulates this young lad from Panjim, Goa who is working as Bartenders’ Supervisor at Cafe Amsterdam, Adliya for the last 3 years. He was with Gulf Hotel for several years prior to this.
AGM of Goans Club: Young Goans Club had its 63rd Annual General Body Meeting on March 26, at its premises in Manama, Bahrain. The main item on the agenda was the election of a new executive committee for the year 2017. However, it turned out to be like ‘Old Wine in New Bottles’. The lackadaisical approach for committee posts from members meant the same old committee led by President Noel Fernandes had to remain in office for another year. Menino Fernandes, Garner Vaz and Rubert Castelino were new members inducted in the committee. At a sparsely attended AGM with dinner, the meeting deliberated on several issues related to management and running of the club’s affairs. Xit-Koddi extends good wishes to the Executive Committee for a successful term.

Services at the Sacred Heart Church (SHC) at the Sacred Heart School grounds in Isa Town. The comfort and the conduct of services is appreciated by parishioners at all times.
However, there is one aspect of the services that has always impressed me by the services, and that is the 'CHOIR' of SHC. It is well-trained, adding beauty and solemnity to the liturgy and also assists and encourages singing by the congregation.
The credit for this superb choir goes to Wilfred Barreto, who has over the years led this choir with enthusiasm and devotion. The music he plays on keyboard is soothing and peaceful. Certainly, music makes our Eucharistic celebration delightful, solemn and festive. Good music can elate us, make us joyful, and inspire us to prayer. These are the special contribution of the SHC choir.
Wilfred hails from Vasco-da-Gama, Goa, and he has been leading the SHC Choir from the time he arrived in Bahrain 1997. He was formally installed as the Main Coordinator and Organist of SHC in the year 2002 by Fr. Felicio Diniz, the then Parish Priest.
Wilfred is the founder member of Angelic Voices of Vasco-da-Gama, the choir group that has had the distinction of winning several competitions in Goa.
Wilfred is happily married to Fiona, who joined him in Bahrain soon after their marriage. The couple is blessed with two sons and a daughter. His elder son Waylen is following in the footsteps of his father and plays the for the 9 a.m. Mass at SHC on Sundays. Daughter Wanika and youngest son Weldon complete this beautiful, devout Goan family in Bahrain.
May God shower His blessings on Wilfred to continue this task in the years to come. Xit-Koddi also compliments all past and present choir members of SHC.

Walsh & Agostinho
Two young Goan lads of Bahrain were the talk of the town over the month-end as they formed part of a Bahrain Select Team to participate in a football tournament for boys under 11, organised by the Espanyol Football Academy by Quattro Sports Centre, Ajmen - U.A.E.
Walsh Sequeria and Agostinho Mascarenhas were the only Goan boys forming part of the Bahrain squad that flew to Ajmen under Winners Football Centre (WFC). The Bahrain team won the tournament that was open to teams from the Gulf region. Both the dashing boys are training under the Kids Football Academy run by WFC at Isa Town, Bahrain. Walsh is to the right in picture taken at Bahrain Airport, where their parents and friends were present to greet and welcome them on arrival back to Bahrain.
Walsh is the son of Venita and Evans Sequeira, while Agostinho's parents are Johnny and Bernadetta Mascarenhas. Johnny - and specially Evans - are well known among the Bahrain Goans football fraternity and their sons are in line, following the footsteps of their fathers.
Xit-Koddi is proud to highlight the feat of these boys of our community, who got selected to represent the team from Bahrain in a distinguished tournament for boys under 11. Well done boys and CONGRATULATIONS to their parents too.

LUCAS CARDOSO
‘Lucas, 72 from Saipem is oldest U-17 FIFA volunteer’ ran the headline of Navhind Times, paying a rich tribute to a veteran who have registered to volunteer for the FIFA Under 17 World Cup to be hosted by India from October 6 to 28.
Lucas M Cardoso, hails from Saipem, Candolim. Having spent a long time in Bahrain he returned to Goa in May’1999 alongwith his wife Ditosa, son Valmiki , daughters Glenda, Lisette, Vandana and Angela.
Lucas’ service in Bahrain include employment with Abbasi Trading for two years, Accountant with Albaab Bank for seven years, in Insurance Underwriting with Alico for ten years and final two years as Financial Controller for Al Ezz Aluminium Bahrain.
A social person by nature, Lucas was involved in the Sacred Heart Church especially during the Parish Family Day during the tenure of Rev. Fr. Felicio Diniz, looking after the accounts of this event. Lucas, who loved to play badminton was a member of several social clubs such as St. Barts, Young Goans, Konkan Singers and Pakistan Club. During the presidentship of Andrew (Bobby) Fernandes’ Lucas served as Internal Auditor of the Goans Club and also contributed articles for the YGC magazine.
Xit-Koddi asked him as to what motivated him to volunteer at this age for the FIFA Under 17 World Cup. Lucas was quick to remark smilingly “I like all sports but being a Goan, I have special affinity for football and as I am conversant in Portuguese, I thought my public relation skills could be used. Moreover, I will be able to translate from Konkani to English, help show people around Goa, help if Portuguese is required to be spoken and translated or in any other logistic work”
Presently living a relaxed and happy retired life in Goa with his wife and children, Lucas loves to do gardening and goes fishing occasionally. He says there is a lot on offer in the Coastal State of Goa for those who wish to live a happy retired life. One has to know where and how to make the approach. People from other states are getting into Goa and Goans should not delay to make their choice of settling in Goa. He concluded his chat with us with a caution that we need to change our attitude and adapt to Indian way of life for Typical Goan life is slowing getting eroded.
Goan Football League: The Goan Footballers have launched a 9-A- Side football league at the Al Ahli Club grounds in Zinj. Top footballers of the Goan fraternity will be seen in action for over 2 months in the league that will be played in two legs. Bardez, Salcette United, Assagao Sporting, Goa United, Snipers and Ribandar are the six teams that are competing in the main competition. A league for veteran players of 40 years and above will also be held on the side lines with Navelim, Tivim and Ribandar vying for the honors. The league is sponsored by M4OIL Manufacturing company and matches kick off at 6.30 p.m every Friday.
Well Done Salcette United: Salcette United continues to illuminate the Goan image at sporting events in Bahrain. Recently they participated in the Hamad and Mohammed Bin
Nasser 5-A-Side Football Championship played at National Stadium in Isa Town. Salcette United ended the championship with their heads held high. They made a glorious entry into the finals defeating Wolves 2 – 1 in the semis. However, they had to remain content with the runners-up spot and cash prize of BD 800 with strong contenders and favorites Crystal Palace stopping them in the finals to clinch the top spot. Salcette need to celebrate the runners-up spot in this tournament as this achievement comes among 32 teams that participated in the tournament with almost all teams fielding Bahraini players.
Salcette United were also runners-up at the ISF 2017 Seven-A-side football tournament played on Al Etihad grounds at Adhari. Salcette was the only Goan team among 10 Indian squads that participated in the tournament. In the final match played on May 2, Salcette held Al-Keralawi to a 1 – 1 draw in regulation time. Extra time failed to break the deadlock and Salcette went down in the tie-breaker that followed to decide the winners.
Salcette continues to keep the Goan flag flying high at football events in Bahrain.
Well Done Salcette – Keep Shining !!!!
