Summer Rain by Paul Laughlin

Back To Main Page

Given the current events in Gaza, it seems fitting to feature the poem ‘Summer Rain’ by Paul Laughlin on my website.

SUMMER RAIN

Here is the world’s most moral army

Cleansing the territories again

Its missiles are cautious and accurate

Here is the family sharing a meal

A student alone with her books

The police recruits passing out

Here are the tanks, bulldozers and planes

Mobilising to answer aggression

Their crews are fresh as the summer rain

And here are the bodies row upon row

Time after time they are tiny

Relatives carry the the bodies of children during the funeral of eight members of the Abu Jarad

who were killed overnight in an Israeli strike in Beit Lahia, north of the Gaza strip
