Poem Of The Month: November 2015
For November's Poem of the Month, I have chosen the poem 'The World Service at 1' by Kate Ennals .
It is taken from her collection At The Edge.
THE WORLD SERVICE AT 1
In February 2014
I hear high pitched screams
Deep tones of grief
Wailing sobs in Damascus
I am in bed, feverish
Shots explode
I turn over, bang my pillow
Move to Africa
Gays outlawed in Uganda
For fear of contagion
School boys murdered in Nigeria
Protests swell in Caracas
Putin is concerned at the coup in Ukraine
Obama the same
I splutter, eyes stream
I listen to Stephen Rea read
Joyce’s Grace
His protagonist believes
In ‘redemption without magic’
I wonder, how can the world be redeemed?
