For July's Poem of the Month, I have chosen the poem Me by Adam Lively.
It is taken from his collection Rainy Daze.
ME
Me,
Who is himself
Without which
He would be somebody else.
Without tears
He gives no unction
Within fears
He cannot function
And we, they, themselves
Can rely on that.
Brown eyes
Brown hair
Brown ears
To hear what I
Or they articulate.
Insight?
By chance.
Or mere verbs to masticate?
Very probably.
That’s your man alright
“Yew Rutter”
Therein they say I quoth.
What was he?
Or is it to say
What imprimatur states his name?
I, that’s he, that was me
And yet the circle remains unbroken.
Weld the sky,
Just don’t ask why!
