Poem Of The Month: July 2016

For July's Poem of the Month, I have chosen the poem 'The Sound of Paper' by Jean Folan.

It is taken from her collection 'Confluence of Wakes'.

THE SOUND OF PAPER

I find comfort

in the sound of paper.

Scrunch it, rustle it.

From a pulpy mess

pounded by machines,

reams of potential.

The composer who dots

five stave lines with notes

presses music into paper.

Poetry sings from a page:

the only silence created

between , . - : ; words.

Does the origamist hear

beating wings when she snaps

paper into a bird form?

Scrunch it, rustle it,

in the sound of paper

I find comfort.
