Poem Of The Month: January 2016

For January's Poem of the Month, I have chosen the poem 'Survival of the Lucky' by Graham Buchan.

It is taken from his collection Lucky.

SURVIVAL OF THE LUCKY

Time, like a bulldozer, pushes history, like rubble, down the

slope of regret and wonder, of inconsequence and chance.

My parents’ wedding.

The war.

The epidemic.

Take me to the howling plain,

where my sharp bones refuse to sleep,

where the hard earth refuses memory,

where the brazen sky looks down

in horror and bewilderment.
