i-Ready defines both a Typical Growth Expectation and Stretch Growth Expectation for each student's Overall reading scale score based on their grade and Grade Level Placement at the beginning of the school year. The excerpt below is i-Ready's description of these growth expectations in the i-Ready manual.
i-Ready assigns Typical and Stretch Growth Expectations for Overall reading scale score according to the tables below.
Time Prorated Growth Expectations
i-Ready's Typical and Stretch Growth Expectations shown in the tables above are based on the assumption of 30 weeks on instruction between diagnostic assessments. In cases where a student receives fewer than 30 weeks of instruction i-Ready states that Growth Expectations can be prorated. This is seen in the following excerpt from the i-Ready manual.
Because many of the school aged partners in the Data Collaborative have fewer than 30 weeks of instruction in their school years, the Data Collaborative has advised partners to use the following formulas to calculate Typical and Stretch Growth Expectations for a given student. These formulas were used to calculate the Typical and Stretch Growth Expectations used in this report.
Typical Growth Expectation = (i-Ready Typical Growth Expectation / 30) * # Weeks between assessments
Stretch Growth Expectation = (i-Ready Stretch Growth Expectation / 30) * # Weeks between assessments
