Communicating and expressing thoughts and needs.
Communicating and expressing thoughts and needs.
Children begin developing expressive language during the early childhood years (birth to age 5).
A child communicates thoughts, wants, and needs through gestures, sounds, and words.
Expressive language is a foundational skill in learning to read. Expressive language helps children communicate and respond to thoughts and ideas about what was read. As childrens’ vocabulary skills increase, expressive language strengthens and children use more words to communicate.
