This report shows student reading outcomes by comparing student's scores on the i-Ready diagnostic reading assessment in the Fall to their scores in the Spring. For this to provide the most accurate picture of growth it can, the report excludes the i-Ready scores for some students that could potentially skew the results. The data validation rules used to decide whether or not a student's scores would be included in the result are listed in the table below along with the reasoning behind them.
1. Students that were not assessed in the Fall and or were not assessed in the Spring were excluded from this report.
Explanation: To get an accurate picture of growth we need to be comparing the same set of students across Fall and Spring.
2. Students who receive a Red Rush Flag on their Fall assessment, Spring assessment or both were excluded from this report.
Explanation: i-Ready designates a diagnostic with a Red Rush Flag when based on the time spent on the assessment it is likely the student rushed. i-Ready suggests excluding these scores as there is a good chance they don't represent the students actual reading skills.
3. Students without at least 10 weeks between their Fall and Spring assessments were excluded from this report.
Explanation: Without sufficient time to receive instruction between assessments students generally will have lower than average growth. We exclude these students so as not to skew growth downward.
1. Enrollment Changes - Students that dis-enroll before the spring will not have spring assessment results to compare to their fall assessment in order to measure growth. Similarly students that enroll after the fall will not have a valid set of assessments. Above & Beyond Students has attempted to counteract this by assessing students that enroll later in the Fall individually even if they have already assessed their other students.
2. Attendance - It can be difficult to assess every student when some students don't attend on the days the assessment is administered. Above & Beyond Students has attempted to counteract this by communicating with parents about when the assessment will be administered so that they make sure their child attends on that day.
3. Students Rushing - Consistently, some students rush through the assessment generating a Red Rush Flag. Above & Beyond Students has attempted to counteract this by encouraging students to do their best and take their time, in addition to retesting students that receive a Red Rush Flag.
