Some of your classes may require you to attend virtually using the online video conferencing platform, Zoom. In order to use Zoom, you will need to have access to a laptop, desktop, or a mobile device with a camera, microphone, and speakers (you may also use a headset, headphones, earbuds, or other listening devices). Your instructors may also use Zoom to host virtual office hours where they can meet with you 1:1. See below for information on Zoom and booking an appointment with your instructor.
Navigate to your course in Brightspace
On the course homepage, find the Calendar widget (right side of the screen)
Select the upcoming meeting event in the calendar
Click on the meeting link to join
Alternative way to join:
Click on More Tools from the blue navigation bar
Select Zoom from the list
Click on the "Join" button next to the meeting you wish to join
Once you click the link or the "Join" button, you will be directed to a launch screen. Select "Launch" from the pop-up to open the Zoom app on your device, or click "Join from your browser" to use your browser.
You may also sync your Brightspace Calendar with your Google Calendar, so you can have all of your class meetings and upcoming activities display in your Google Calendar. Follow the steps on the Student Calendar page.
Zoom is best experienced from the downloaded application. You may download the Zoom application here: https://nicc.zoom.us/download
To access the course's recordings, you will need to do the following:
In your course, go to "More Tools" in the blue navigation bar at the top of the page
Click "Zoom" from the menu
Select the "Cloud Recordings" tab at the top of the page
From there, you should be able to see all of the available recordings from your course's Zoom sessions. Please note that your instructor may disable access to some or all of the recordings. If you do not see a specific recording that you need to view, please work with your instructor so they may give you access to the video.
Navigate to your course in Brightspace
Select More Tools from the blue navigation bar at the top of the page
Click Zoom
Select the Appointments tab at the top of the page
Click on your instructor's scheduler
Find the day that you would like to meet and select the time slot below it that works best for you
Click "Book" to book your appointment
From there, you and your instructor will receive an email confirmation for your appointment. You can join this appointment by using the meeting link in the confirmation email, or by going back to the Appointments page and selecting Upcoming Events.
Navigate to your course in Brightspace
Select More Tools from the blue navigation bar at the top of the page
Click Zoom
Select the Appointments tab at the top of the page
Click on Upcoming Events
Find the meeting you wish to cancel and click "Cancel"
From there, you and your instructor will receive an email confirmation for canceling your appointment.
Go to nicc.zoom.us
Sign in using your NICC account information
Select Meetings on the left side of the screen
Ensure you are under Upcoming Meetings
Click on the upcoming appointment
Select the "Google Calendar" link
Save the meeting
From there, the meeting will appear in your Google Calendar with the invite information. You may join this meeting either through this calendar link, the confirmation email link, or from Brightspace.
You should reach out to your instructor and see if they would be willing to meet with you outside of the designated appointment slots. You may reach out to them directly via their contact information in the Getting Started module in Content, or their contact information in the course syllabus.
If you cannot access the class meeting, please ensure you are clicking on the correct meeting link provided by your instructor. The most up-to-date link should be under More Tools and then Zoom. If you are still experiencing issues, reach out to your instructor to ensure they provided the correct meeting link.
