Shared Navigation Bars

NICC uses shared Navigation Bars to ensure learners have a smooth user experience across all of their courses in Brightspace. All shared Navigation Bars are consistently updated by the LMS Admins to include new links to tools, references, and more. Below you will find the most commonly used navigation bars in our Brightspace.

NICC Shared Navigation Bar:

The NICC Shared Navigation bar is the most commonly used bar in Brightspace courses. This bar includes links to most Brightspace tools, resources, and assistance for learners and instructors.

Note: This Brightspace Knowledge Base will frequently refer to the NICC Shared Navigation Bar's layout for instructions, troubleshooting, and more.

CBE Navigation Bar:

The CBE Navigation Bar is used in all CBE courses. This bar is similar to the NICC Shared Navigation Bar, however, some tool links were removed to comply with the structure of a CBE course.

Clubs/Orgs Navigation Bar:

The Clubs/Orgs Navigation Bar is used for all Club and Organization pages in Brightspace, including Student Life, BPA, eSports, etc. This shared bar is the most limited as not all tools are required for Club and Organization members.

Note: Some courses may use a custom Navigation Bar that is not shared. These custom bars may not have the same layout or links as the shared bars above. If you happen to be in a course with a custom bar, please contact your instructor if you need help locating specific links.

Pin Courses

Pin courses to the top of your 'My Courses' list for quick and easy access. To pin courses, you can do that one of two ways:

On the Brightspace homepage, hover your mouse over your course tile in the 'My Courses' widget. Three dots will appear on the tile. Click the three dots button and select 'Pin'.
Click on the "waffle" course select icon at the top of any page in Brightspace and simply click the pin next to a course.

When you no longer want a course pinned, do the same steps to remove the pinned course.

Want to re-arrange your pinned courses?

The most straightforward way to rearrange pinned courses is to click on the "Waffle" course select icon on any page in Brightspace and 'unpin' every course you have pinned.

After you've done that, click the pins next to the courses you want in the exact order you want. Refresh the page. Ta-da! Your courses are now arranged in the way you want.
