Course Administration

Course Admin houses your course's settings, tools, and more. You can find pretty much anything there from the Course Copy tool to Intelligent Agents. Only users with Instructor roles or higher can access the Course Admin in a course shell. You will find some of the tools available listed below.

Change Course Access and Start/End Dates

Change Course Start/End Date

The start and end dates of your course in Brightspace are automatically set to those given in the Dates column on the course schedule in Colleague. You can change these dates if you wish to provide your students extended access either before or after the given dates.

From anywhere within the course, click Course Admin:

Note: Removing the check box next to “Course has start date” or “Course has end date” will disable the dates. We recommend you leave the Start Date and End Date checkboxes selected for courses taught by semester to control student access by date.

FAQs

What if I copy from or to the wrong course?

If you accidentally copy to or from the wrong course, you can use the Course Reset option to delete all content from the course and start fresh. Note that this Course Reset will delete everything permanently and it cannot be undone. The Course Reset will not affect user enrollments or the Course Offering Information.

Can I import a course from another Learning Management System (LMS)?

Yes, Brightspace is able to import various course packages, but it works best if you can find a D2L specific file. You can also export a Brightspace course and import it into another LMS.

What if I can't find the course I want to copy from?

You should see all of the courses you have access to when you search for a Course Offering. Make sure to double-check what you entered in the search bar as 1 character can cause you to not see the course you are looking for. If you do not have access to the course you wish to copy from, you will need to ask the course's instructor for permission. Once you have permission, please submit this in a ticket to online@nicc.edu, and a member of the DIID team will either copy the course for you or give you access to the course so you may perform the course copy.

What happens if I change the End Date of my course?

If you change the End Date, students will continue to have access to the course up until the End Date. If you have a student that needs an extension beyond the End Date, you can extend the course, but be aware that all other students will be able to access the course too. You may need to lock down certain activities, Modules, etc. to make sure they do not try to work on things without your permission.
