Host for: Special value to Bumblebees.

Flowers: June through July.

Plant Characteristics: A short deciduous shrub with dense branches. Flowers occur singly or in few-flowered clusters. 

Fun Facts: This plant contains hypericin, a photosensitive toxin which makes herbivores less likely to eat it. Food source for (Strymon melinus) butterflies.

• Bumblebees are very common pollinators. 

• Pollination by these bees is efficient due to their long tongue and tendencies to vibrate their wings frequently.

• St. John's Wort (Hypericum punctatum) offers a food source for the Bumblebee.
