Common Apple 

Malus sylvestris

Small tree or large shrub with deciduous simple leaves on a short trunk with a broad rounded crown of rigid branches. The fruit is wide round pome depressed at both ends and ranging in colors from greed to red to yellow. 

Distribution: Widely cultivated around the world. 

Uses: Edible fruit is eaten raw or cooked in many traditional dessert dishes.  The bark is used to treat fever.  The leaves contain 2.4 % of antibacterial substance called phloretin.  

Note: Several members of this family contain hydrogen cyanide in their seeds. Apple seeds usually do not contain very high quantities, however the seeds should not be consumed in high quantities.
