Nightshade 

Solanum nigrum 

Drooping, white flowers in small umbels along the branches. Flowers star shaped with a cone of stamens in the center. Leaves egg shaped either entire or wavy-toothed. Black berry. 

Distribution: Species are distributed from temperate to tropical regions, and from sea level to altitudes over 3500 meters. S. nigrum appears to be distributed throughout the world, and one or more members of the complex probably occur in every nation from Finland in the northern hemisphere to New Zealand in the southern hemisphere. Solanum nigrum itself is a predominantly Eurasian species.

Uses: After centuries of use as a poison and cosmetic, the medicinal uses of Deadly Nightshade were finally realized and made available to treat a variety of illnesses and ailments. Its medical applications include use as a pain reliever, muscle relaxer, anti-inflammatory, and as a treatment for whooping cough and hay fever.
