Strawberries

Strawberry History: First bred in Brittany, France in the 1750's. They were a cross between Fragaria virginiana from eastern North America and Fragaria chiloensis. The first name of the strawberry was "Hovey."

• Easy to grow (White)

• Moderate Harvesting (Yellow)

Zones: 

• Grow in USDA zones 4-9

Pot Size:

• 10-12 inches in diameter

• 8 inches deep

Maintenance and Growth:

• Give 1 to 1.5 inches of water weekly

• Avoid wetting the leaves

• 10 or more hours of sunlight each day

Seed Harvesting:

• Harvest them in the cool of morning

• Refrigerate right away

Uses:

• Baked goods

• Jam or jelly

• Face masks

• Salad dressing

Facts:

• They're a type of rose

• Can be many different colors

• Early fruit tastes the sweetest

• The fear of strawberries is called Fragariaphobia
