Host for: The common buckeye butterfly (Junonia coenia) and many species of birds.
Flowers: During the late summer months.
Plant Characteristics: Simple leaves with a branching square stem. On the top of the plant is the purple flower with it's bluish-violet tint.
Fun Facts: Many sparrows and cardinals feed on the seeds of blue vervain (Verbena hastata).
