PROCEDURE
1.Mass 0.5 g of each substance.
2. Label the filter papers with samples.
3. While one person is obtaining the samples the other person should be rinsing four test tubes with distilled water.
4. Observe the appearance of each known substance.
5. Feel the texture of each substance and record observation in the Data and Observations section below
6. Add 10 ml of distilled water to each of the test tubes.
7. Use a spatula to add about ¼ of each substance to the test tube of water.
8. Swirl the test tube for about 10 seconds and record if the substance dissolves.
9. Add three drops of bromothymol blue indicator to the water mixtures and record observations.
10.Pour contents of the tubes down the drain and rinse with distilled water.
11.Rinse the four test tubes and add another 10 ml of distilled water to each of the test tubes.
12.Use a spatula to add about ¼ of each substance to the test tube of water.
13. Add three drops of iodine indicator to the water mixtures and record observations.
14. Pour contents of the tubes down the drain and rinse with distilled water.
15.Add 5 ml of vinegar to each of the test tubes.
16. Use a spatula to add about ¼ of the each substance with the vinegar and record observation.
