Step 1: Drawing of turtle
Step 2: Cutting of lino print
Step 3: 1st draft of lino print
Step 1: Outline the black and white design and mark out the shadows.
Step 2: Draw the reverse black and white design on the other side of the paper with the help of a lightbox.
(I forgot to take photo)
Step 3: Draw the reverse portrait onto the lino using carbon paper and a ballpoint pen. Then, outline and colour in the part with permanent marker that is going to be black.
Step 4: Choose 2 contrasting colours for the colour scheme - one for the face, one for the background. After choosing, write the procedure clearly at the bottom to prevent confusion.
Step 5: Start by carving out the white parts which are the reflections, eyes and shirt colour.
Step 6: Using the ink of your desired colour, print out the first print. Repeat the printing process 3-5 times. I did not use enough ink in my first print (pictured above), resulting in lots of white spaces on the face.
Step 7: Print the second print (pictured above)
Step 8: Print the third print (pictured above). My third print is the best out of the 3 prints as it does not have much empty spaces on the face.
Step 9: Refer back to the colour scheme and carve out the beige parts- my face and neck.
Step 10: Do a test print with the second colour of ink you have chosen- Blue. After doing a test print, i had to carve out more on the face as there were parts of the face that had blue ink.
(I forgot to take a photo)
Step 11: Print the lino coated with blue ink over the first beige print. I feel that for the first print (pictured above), the background could use more ink as i could see the beige colour on the background. I also forgot to wipe away the ink on the face.
Step 12: This is my second print (pictured above). I feel that my background could still use more ink.
Step 13: This is my third print (pictured above). I feel that this print is the best one out of the 3 prints, as the background is the most solid.
Step 14: Refer back to the colour scheme, and cut out the blue parts, which is the background. Lastly, print using black ink.
Step 15: Do a test print with the black ink to ensure that my cutting was clean. I realised that i had to cut the lino again as the background was not cut cleanly and some parts had black ink.
(I forgot to take a photo)
Step 16: This is my first print (pictured above). I feel that i did not use enough ink resulting in some places looking very patchy.
Step 17: This is my second print (pictured above). I feel that this is the best print out of the 3 prints as the black colour is not patchy, but some of the ink seeped into the eyes.
Step 18: This is my third print (pictured above). I felt very disappointed with this outcome as this was initially my best print. At the start there was not enough ink so i decided to print the black twice, but then at the end there was too much ink.
