Step 1:Sketching out image
Step 2:Transferring the sketch onto the lino sheet using permanant marker and partially carving out
Step 3:Carving out some of the lino to form my image
My Self-Potrait Linoprint
Step 1: First,I took a picture of myself.
Step 2: After it is printed out by Ms Ng,I went ahead to trace out the outline of my potrait and shaded shadowed parts to seperate my potrait into positive and negative space.(all using a 4B pencil)
Step 3: Using the lightbox and pencil,I outlined and shaded all the lines on the reverse side of the paper.
Step 4: I pasted my reverse drawing onto the red-faced lino sheet. Afterwards,I slided a carbon paper between the lino sheet and my reverse drawing.
Step 5: I used a ballpoint pen to re-trace the outlines and re-shaded the shadowed areas in my reverse drawing to transfer it onto the lino sheet.
Step 5.1: Placing the reverse drawing and lino sheet side-by-side,I used a permanent marker to further darken the traces and shaded parts of the carbon paper.
Completed version of potrait on lino sheet:)
Step 6: Going back to my reverse drawing,I chose purple and orange as part of my colour scheme and coloured in the respective colours using coloured pencils. Then,I wrote at the bottom of the table the sequence of cutting and printing which colour specifically.
Step 7:Afterwards I carved out the white parts I wanted to print purple. However,I accidentally carve out the outlines on my face also as seen in step 8.(there are white outlines seen)
Step 8:First purple print.
Firstly,I placed the lino on the alignment board and placed a white A4 paper over then,i pressed the white paper against the lino with a lot of pressure and rolled the weight around to let the paint spread evenly.Initially,I was actually going for a more pastel purple but I added too much blue and red so if I continue addding white, the paint would be too dry.The white outline of my face also has a bit of purple paint which meant that i probalby did not carve out that line deep enough.I feel this print turned out pretty nice surprisingly.
Second purple print
For this print,i might have added too much paint together which caused the purple paint to be quite dry thus the print turned out to look a bit rough in texture. Some parts of our my white outlines is covered with paint.
Third purple print
Some paint still covered the outlines of my lips.
Fourth purple print
I think the paint waas too wet thick thus it was stuck on the parts that i carved out and the print turned out to be fully painted.
Fifth purple paint
This is probalby the best out of all tthe prints i have as the outlnes on my face are all pretty clear with no paint covered.
Sixth purple print
My outlines of my nose and face is covered by some paint.
Seventh purple print
This was quite okay just that I did not press evenly which resulted in some parts of my face not having the paint.
Step 9:First red print
I did the same procedure as step 8 but its just that I changed the white A4 paper to my paper with purple print.I tested my second prints on one of my bad first prints(as i had quite a number of them)and it turned out to be the best second print i had as the following prints just all went downhill:")However, the paint on my face is not that solid and there are visible white patches.**and the paint was supposed to look orange in colour but i might have mixed too much red which resulted in this.:((
Second red print
I feel for this, I think its due to the paint i mixed being too wet and not pressing the weight hard enough to transfer all the paint which resulted in the paint bring a bit patchy in my lino.
Third red print
Honestly,I feel this attempt is the best just that there's still some small white parts in the background and speckles of red dots on the face.I should press the weight harder around the background.
Fourth red print
From here onwards,I realised I should focuse on printing the background more as my purple face would still be covered in black paint later on.There is still some red paint on my purple print but my background now is pretty evenly covered in red.I should wipe of the red paint on my face(on lino)before printing it onto the purple print paper.
Fifth red print
I still tried it with my one of my bad purple prints thus this also can't be used. The background still have some traces of white which is probably because i never moved the weight around evenly.
Sixth red print
The background was mostly covered so that's good but my face was smudged with some red paint which probably is due to me not wiping the paint off the face area of the lino before.
Step 10:I carved out all the parts that should be painted red to print the last black coloured layer.
Step 11:This is my test black and white print that I printed.
Step 12:Afterwards i printed the black ink onto one of my purple and red piece. This is one of my final lino print artwork that i printed.Although the purple colour of the paint is a bit patchy, that might be add a special texture to my artwork!:)
This is my second final lino art print that i'm prettyy satisfied with!
I forgot to take the picture of when i carved out purple parts to paint my red print so,I only have this picture of my face carved out and when i already rolled the paint on.Sorry..
