My Self Portrait Lino

Step 1:

Shade and trace your portrait. Shade the areas that are going to be black, and what needs to be cut out for the first print. (I forgot to take a photo)

Step 2:Flip your portrait over and redraw it on the lightbox (so you can see the lines and the features to draw out) (I forgot to take a photo)

Step 3:Put a piece of carbon paper between your portrait and the lino print and use a ball point pen to trace it over, this is so that the lines or markings of your portrait will appear on the lino for you to cut, next trace the lighter lines on your lino into more solid lines, and shade the areas that are going to be black. ( i forgot to take a photo)

Step 4:

Pick three colour for your lino (obviously one must be black colour, i chose blue and green for the second colour) Pick blue or green for the face and background and then write below these steps:

"cut white print blue" "cut blue print green" "cut green print black"

Step 5:Now cut out the "white" areas so you can print "blue"

Step 6:Using blue colour, print it out. Do note not to ink the whole ino, but only ink the face area and the areas that are cut, so as to not have a hard time inking the second and third layer. Print it three times at least, but it is preferred to print for five times.

Step 7:

Now cut "blue" and print "green" as you can see my lines are very uneven and some are not carved as deep as the others, which will cause "dirt" on the print. Afterwards i recutted it.

Step 8:This is my second print as you can see its abit smudged. I was stuck at this step for a very long time, because the ink was not enough, and theres was always alot of blotches. Ms Ng gave me a good suggestion to ink it two times, which helped me alot! Print this with all five of the first prints!

Step 9:

Now cut "green" and print black! It's the third print, so it will take more prints for the black to aply onto the paper. If there are small blotches that are not covered, you may use a small brush to cover it up!

Step 10:

Also final and last print!

END PRODUCT! Yay!

Mistakes that I made during the whole procedures: Forgot to take pictures, sometimes i accidentally cut too hard and destroy some of the features.
