Step 1: Draw and sketch out the design with pencil
step 2: Transfer onto lino and cut out the design
step 4: Print out the linocut at the printing station
Step 1: Trace over the photo and add shadows
Step 2: Use a light box to trace out all the lines on the reverse side. Next, choose a colour scheme
Step 3: Use carbon paper and ball point pen to trace/imprint the entire drawing onto the lino. Next, carve out the unshaded(white parts) on hair, eyes, teeth and the school uniform.
Step 4: (Forgot to take picture) Print your 1st print with the skin colour of your choice, mine is yellow. Print a minimum of 3 times, best 5 so we have more prints to work with if we messed up one
Step 5: (Forgot to take picture) After printing for at least 3 times, carve out the rest of the unshaded(white parts) on face and neck.
Step 6: (Forgot to take picture) Print the 2nd print, with the background colour of your choice, mine green at first but I changed it to blue after that. Do remember to do a test print before printing on the actual print to make sure your carving is done nicely
As you can see above, my back ground (Blue colour) is printed quite nicely as there are only few patches that are not printed with blue paint.
Step 7: After printing for at least 3 times, carve out the background, leaving only hair, shadows and outline.
Step 8: Print the last print with black colour. Do a test print also as said in step 6. Do remember to coat the paint evenly on your lino to avoid empty areas that are not printed black like mine. Use a cloth to wipe away the black paint on unwanted areas so to have a clean print and not patches of black on areas like your neck or face.
