On Sunday, March 12, the Oscar Academy Awards happened for the 95th time in Los Angeles. The Oscars is a famous yearly American awards ceremony that recognizes excellence in the United States film industry, as well as a variety of other cinematic accomplishments. Such achievements include Best Actor and Best Actress in a Leading or Supporting Role, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup, and the most coveted prize of all, Best Picture.
The ceremony was held by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and honored films released in 2022. The honored movies included All Quiet on the Western Front, the new sequel Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Triangle of Sadness, and Women Talking.
The Best Picture winner of this Oscar ceremony was Everything Everywhere All at Once, the star of which was Michelle Yeoh, playing Evelyn Quan. In fact, Michelle is the first woman who identifies as Asian to be nominated for and win the award of Best Actress. Four Asian actors received acting nominations, setting a record: Hong Chau, Stephanie Hsu, and winners Ke Huy Quan and Yeoh, all of whom are in Everything Everywhere All at Once, excluding Hong Chau from The Whale.
