From 4/22-4/26, MMS held its annual Spirit Week, where students showed their school spirit and pride by participating in various activities. This year was a special one because the whole entire school got to participate, instead of only 7th grade like the previous years. During study hall, the teachers counted up the total number of students participating in spirit week. The grade with the most points had a chance to pie a teacher. The students of the winning grade entered a raffle and whoever got chosen pied the respective teachers.
If a student submitted a photo of themselves dressed up in the theme of one of the days, they would have gotten one raffle ticket to enter into the drawing of the pie-your-teacher event.
Monday was Wear Blue and White Day, the colors of Millburn. What better way to encourage school spirit than to wear the colors of our school?
Tuesday was 80’s Day when students were encouraged to wear clothes from the 1980s.
On Wednesday, students wore sports jerseys or sportswear of their favorite sports teams for Sports Day.
Also on that day, judges rated study hall room doors that students worked to decorate to promote school spirit. Students decorated their study hall doors to answer the prompt: “What does school spirit mean to you?” All individual study hall points were collectively added to their grade’s total. Additionally, the top three study halls were awarded with special prizes. The 1st place winner was taken by 8th grade with room 125, a Pac-Man-themed room; the 2nd place winner was also taken by 8th grade for room 121; and third place went to 6th grade with room 315.
Thursday was Hat Day and the students versus the teachers kickball tournament took place after school. The 8th grade team in the end pulled out victorious.
Friday was PJ Day, where students wore their comfiest clothes to school. In addition, the pie-your-teacher event was also held.
The scores were posted and updated on the bulletin board by the auditorium, and students could check the current and updated scores whenever they wanted.
In the end, when all the points were accumulated, 7th grade won and the winning students pied their teachers, including Mr. Mele, Ms. Wen, Ms. Yao, Mr. Maietta, Ms. Reilly, Mr. Gross, Ms. Green, and Ms. Ralph.
