Special Olympics
By Aden B and Ayati J
On February 8th, some of our very own Peer Leader groups went to an ice skating arena to cheer on special needs kids on the rink. The Peer Leader groups SPORT, TIGS, SHOK and BOLT went on a field trip to cheer on Special Olympics participants in New Jersey. The field trip to an ice skating rink was to encourage and support the New Jersey speed-skating team. About 7-10 Olympians went on the rink at once, and a couple of our own Peer Leader groups went on. It was a great experience for everyone that attended, two of the trip attendees, Ava and Avery of SPORT, can attest:
Q: So, what did you guys do?
A: We went to an ice skating rink, and cheered on some people with disabilities.
Q: Why did you guys go?
A: We went to support the teams and encourage the participants which was great to do, and we had fun while doing it!
Q: How did you guys feel after doing it?
A: So, we went to cheer them on, and we were surprised and happy to see how many others went to cheer them on! A lot of their friends and family were there, and we even got to high five them on the way out! It was really nice to see how we can make other people happy, and spend time encouraging them.
