As Halloween comes around the corner, it’s time for Candy Grams!
What are Candy Grams?
According to PLOP peer leaders Lily Speltz and Valarie Cangur, Candy Grams are a limited fundraising event organized by the PLOP peer leaders, and it has been a tradition at MMS for at least 12 years. Up until October 30th, students can order small bags of candy for $1. They can order some for friends and on October 31st, the bags of candy will be delivered to the recipients during study hall to celebrate Halloween!
Where does the money for Candy Grams go?
All the money from the Candy Grams goes to a non profit organization called HEIFER International. They are dedicated to helping those in poor communities by donating animals. They give domestic farm animals such as cows, chickens, goats, ducks, sheep, and even bees. Unlike canned foods or tractors, animals can last for long periods of time, constantly reproducing and giving resources to people in need. PLOP peer leader advisor Marylou Kirk mentions that in addition to donating, Candy Grams allows for students to “brighten a friend’s day” using candy!
So, make sure to stop by the PLOP peer leaders in the main hallway after school if you want to buy some Candy Grams. They are only available for a certain amount of time, so buy some before October 30th to support your peer leaders!
