BRAVE
Being - Respectful - And - Valuing - Everyone
In the U.S., marginalized communities make up 39% of the population. That’s nearly one in three people who identify with a marginalized group. In order to promote equality and diversity of the marginalized communities in Millburn Middle School, our BRAVE peer leaders (advised by Mrs. Marron) lead the fight for spreading awareness. We interviewed one of the current BRAVE peer leaders, Kaia T., to gain more insight into the group.
Why did you decide to join BRAVE as your peer leader group?
I chose this group because I’m part of many marginalized communities and I thought the goal [of spreading diversity] was intriguing.
What was a memorable experience/project that you got to take part in as a BRAVE peer leader?
A fun project we did was going to study halls around the school to get “No Place for Hate” signatures of the students. We got to witness the excitement from many different students and it was a good experience to further our knowledge as BRAVE peer leaders.
Why should incoming 7th graders (and future students) join BRAVE?
Peer leaders of BRAVE develop a better understanding of different discriminated-against communities as we work to help our own school become a safer and more aware environment for the students. Being able to see the impact that we’ve been able to make at MMS is also really rewarding.
BRAVE is truly an important peer leader group, helping Millburn Middle School remain a “No Place for Hate” environment!
