As many of the students at MMS know, there are many events held by the WELL Peer Leaders to help with stress and make you feel better overall. But some students prefer unloading by themselves, or on their own time. This article may help with that so here are some easy ways to relieve stress at home.
Stay active
Exercise is an extremely beneficial stress reliever for many people. It helps pump the endorphins that make you feel good and helps refocus your mind while also improving your mood. There are many things you can do that don’t involve doing anything intense. You can go on a jog or a walk, go on a bike ride, do yoga, clean, swim, and more.
Eat something healthy
Eating healthy can help balance your nutrient intake while also balancing your hormones. Eating fruits and vegetables helps with brain function and makes you feel better overall.
Meditate/Yoga
Meditating can help clear your mind of overwhelming thoughts while calming your nerves. It can help with your breathing and is one of the best ways to calm yourself down. Yoga helps discipline your body and is beneficial due to its slow and easy movements.
Connect with your loved ones
Connecting with your loved ones, rather than isolating yourself up in a corner, can provide a healthy distraction from whatever is causing stress. Also, telling someone else what is causing stress in your life can help you unload what is going on as well as get feedback on whatever it is that is bothering you.
Get enough sleep
Getting enough sleep can help reset your body and take a break from some of the thoughts and emotions that you are experiencing. It can give you an energy boost while also helping you relax from the tension of your situation.
Journal
Writing down your thoughts can help you unload your thoughts by yourself. You may feel different after journaling and your nerves may be calmer because you aren’t overwhelmed by your thoughts.
Listen/Play music
Listening to music is a great stress reliever for a lot of people. It has been found to help many as it is a simple distraction and upbeat music can make you feel better overall.
Therapy/talking to a friend/family member
Many people don’t feel comfortable telling someone personal to them, about some parts of their lives. Therapists can help with that. They are trained to help you feel better and can see some things that you or a family member/loved one may not see. Seeking out for therapy is not meant to be negative or uncomfortable, and it is perfectly fine if that is something you need.
Go on a walk
Going on a walk is also another great way to relieve stress. You are benefitting from physical exercise, you can gather all your thoughts in the midst of nature, and you get some alone time, which is sometimes all you need.
Overall, having reduced stress, especially for students, is a significant part of one’s everyday life and can impact decision making skills, as well as passion for certain activities. Reducing stress can lead to an improvement in grades, along with a generally happier lifestyle.
