Peer Leader Induction Night
21 November, 2022
‘Twas the 27th of October when the Peer Leaders of the school year 2022-23 were officially inducted. The sun's rays were slowly settling, and the glowing lights of the school shone brightly. The auditorium was filled with parents, while the fresh batch of Peer Leaders patiently awaited their inauguration.
At 6:30, all the Leaders filed into the auditorium. Enthusiasm - and slight nervousness - was in the air. The most interesting detail was that every Peer Leader was dressed in their Peer Leader t-shirt and black pants. The color code gave us a sense of unity.
All the Peer Leader groups had student-made banners that illustrated them and their ideas. After everyone was seated, the Pledge of Allegiance rang out, commenced by student Zara Doshi.
The Masters of Ceremonies Matthew Xia and Ella Trautner began by explaining the Peer Leadership program, which was followed by the Peer Leader Message Speakers Olivia Shidler and Sophia van Roon, who spoke about their experiences as Peer Leaders in 7th grade.
Every Peer Leader group, starting with ARROW and ending with WELL, came up to the stage, with a speaker from each group talking about their goals and intentions for the upcoming school year.
Speakers were nervous, but their speeches were flawless. Students on stage were waving when their names were being called out. Parents were taking videos of this proud moment.
Nearing the end, Millburn High School students who used to be Peer Leaders in 8th grade made us take our pledge towards our duties and responsibilities as new Peer Leaders.
Finally, after such a long time, the students could now head to the Upper Gym for snacks. They were now Peer Leaders.
