On the 23rd of October, 2025, Millburn Middle School students & staff were encouraged to wear pink clothing and accessories in recognition of Pink Out Day. Pink Out Day is an event made to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and support.
You've likely seen or heard of the pink ribbon. Perhaps you know that it's related to cancer. So what does it actually mean?
The pink ribbon, commonly folded in a way that forms an upside-down teardrop shape at the top with its ends extended outward on the bottom, is an international symbol of breast cancer awareness. Originally, the ribbon was actually peach colored. However, over time, it changed to be a hot pink or pastel pink as we know it today.
How our school helped support breast cancer research:
Wear pink! The school symbolized its commitment to supporting efforts against breast cancer by wearing accessories & apparel in any shade of pink.
Fundraise for the cause! Students & staff could purchase MMS-made stickers to support the cause at lunches and before and after school in the main lobby. Stickers were a $1 donation directly to the fundraiser - 100% of the profits benefit breast cancer research via the National Breast Cancer Foundation, INC.
Exclusively teachers & staff could pre-order an iron-on vinyl logo on a shirt! It was either a full-front logo ($10) or a pocket logo ($5). Makerspace students and Peer Leaders used the teacher-/staff-supplied pink shirt to heat press the logo of their choice.
Although Pink Out Day may be over, the struggle against cancer continues. We encourage you to find ways to support cancer research, whether by wearing pink or donating to local or online breast cancer fundraisers. Thank you for doing your part!
