We hosted our annual Team Building Day on Wednesday, November 26th, offering unique, grade-level experiences focused on collaboration and community. Our 6th graders spent the day at MJS working alongside Madison High School students on various team-building activities. The 7th grade traveled to the Madison YMCA for an engaging program designed to strengthen teamwork skills, while the 8th grade enjoyed a morning of exciting activities at the Funplex. I am incredibly proud of our students for their enthusiastic participation and grateful to our entire staff for their coordination. A special thank you to the Madison YMCA, Funplex, and our Madison High School partners for helping create such a meaningful and memorable day for the MJS ONE Community! A special thank you to our PTO and our MJS families for donating all of the great snacks for our students to enjoy throughout the event!
This week in Culture Club, we celebrated the spirit of Thanksgiving by focusing on the importance of gratitude—while enjoying some delicious snacks, of course! Students reflected on the importance of appreciating the many adults who are in our school each day. Culture Club Members created heartfelt gratitude cards for staff members who don’t always receive acknowledgement or appreciation by students, including our custodians, lunchroom team, nurse, school resource officer, and office staff. Thanks to a generous donation of supplies from Crafted, students were able to design thoughtful, personal cards that helped us recognize and appreciate all the individuals who make our MJS ONE community truly outstanding.
The Novice Mid Italian students wrapped up an exciting tech-integrated project this week! Using ThingLink, students generated their own AI-created 360° images and added interactive tags to turn them into vocabulary games. Today, they celebrated their hard work by exploring each other’s creations with VR headsets. The students did a fantastic job—and had a lot of fun immersing themselves in Italian language and culture!

In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook (damaged beyond repair) - $365.00
Broken Screen - $90.00
Broken Keyboard - $70.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.
