On Friday we had the opportunity to celebrate our October Student Leaders of the Month. At the end of each month our teachers choose two students from each team to represent their team as Leaders of the Month. A big congratulations to our Leaders of the Month and for all they bring to our MJS ONE Community on a daily basis. Thank you to these students for being great role models within our building.

On Wednesday, November 12th, MJS held a truly memorable Veterans Day celebration, honoring more than 20 attending Veterans. Students demonstrated their deep gratitude through outstanding musical selections and thoughtful, heartfelt speeches. Furthermore, the assembly kicked off our Student Council’s school-wide community service effort of the year, the Toys for Tots drive. The event was a wonderful demonstration of service and patriotism that resonated deeply with all attendees.
Students in Miss Dripchak's 7th and 8th Grade Spanish classes learned about the important Spanish holiday of Dia de los Muertos from the end of October to the beginning of November. Students in 7th grade learned about the Barriletes Gigantes in Guatemala and made their own Barriletes in class. They were then able to "fly" their kites outside once they were all completed. Students in 8th grade learned about the Ofrendas that are made for loved ones who have passed during Dia de Muertos. Students made their own "Shoebox Shadowboxes" to commemorate loved ones, pets or famous people they admired that have passed. Students then did a gallery walk of the shadow boxes and voted on the best made Shadowbox. Students loved learning about all the different aspects of Dia de los Muertos and creating their own Barriletes and Shadow boxes!
This week, Culture Club members explored over 30 dual-language international children’s books! Community member Laura Axler joined us to share her personal book collection, her cultural background, and even some delicious snacks. Students each selected a book and worked to identify its language and country of origin before tracing our discoveries across a world map—jumping from continent to continent as we learned about languages and cultures from around the globe. Some highlights from our literary journey included: discovering a book written in Navajo, and learning how this language helped shape a secret code used during World War II; discussing how Japanese has developed unique words influenced by English; exploring how Hebrew often omits vowels in writing, even though they’re essential to pronunciation; and reading a story in Catalan, a language spoken primarily in Catalonia, an autonomous community of Spain. Overall, our Culture Club meeting was a wonderful adventure through books, languages, and stories that connect us across the world!
Our Peer Leaders had two events this Tuesday in the gym. Volleyball and Endzone! The events were a tremendous success with the highest turnout of the year with almost 50 students! The The Peer Leaders will be off next next Tuesday for team planning, but will be back the first week of December.
Bright Minds Academy met this Wednesday. The expert of the week explored the world of project Sekai. A Cultural phenomenon. We're looking forward to our meeting next week where we will be making no cook thanksgiving treats!
Here is a sampling of our great student artwork coming out of Ms. Cafaro's Art Studio.

In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook (damaged beyond repair) - $365.00
Broken Screen - $90.00
Broken Keyboard - $70.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.
