On Friday our students participated in a special all-school assembly where we revealed the results of our "What Makes Us One?" community survey. The data was clear and exciting: Our unity doesn't come from being exactly the same; it comes from the incredible energy we create together through shared experiences here at MJS.
Here are just a few things that unify our students:
Shared Playlists: Students are unified by a common love for Pop and Hip-Hop, which serves as the fuel for our school's social energy. 🎧
Team Spirit: Our community is overwhelmingly unified by a passion for team sports, especially Soccer, Basketball, and Football, reminding everyone we are all on the same team. ⚽
Local Loyalty: For a quick treat, there is an intense, friendly rivalry between McCool's and Fable and Flame, showing a strong consensus around supporting local culture.
Global Connection: Our community is rich with unique holiday traditions and multilingual households, proving that their diverse backgrounds are the super-charge that makes MJS smarter and stronger.
We ended the assembly by challenging students to continue this energy by being curious, sharing their unique energy, and choosing kindness every day. Thank you for raising such a talented, diverse, and interconnected group of students!
This year our Peer Leaders are starting something new! Throughout the year groups of Peer Leaders will plan an activity/game from start to finish and will facilitate the activity to any students who are interested one day after school. This is a great opportunity for students to connect with each other through fun and engaging activities. The first activity was held this week and they had a great turn out! We look forward to future activities led by our Peer Leaders!
Our 7th graders participated in the Annual cemetery trip with local Historian Scott Spelker this week. Students learned about Madison History for research application for their Historical Narrative projects.
Our new Clubs and Activities Website is now live! Find out about all the clubs that MJS has to offer. The Club calendar also provides an update schedule of all the meetings. Our lost and found table continues to gather many items. A big thank you to our office secretary, Ms. Kelly for continuing to take the time to organize these items so we can get them back to their owners. Below are pictures of all the current items we have in our lost and found. If you notice a item that belongs to your child please have them go to the office to check in with Ms. Kelly before picking up their item. Thank you for your assistance in getting these items back to their owners.

It’s that time of year again—the MJS PTO Griggstown Pie fundraiser is back! From October 15 to November 5, you can order delicious sweet and savory pies that come frozen and ready to bake at home. Pick up is Wednesday, Nov 19th between 4-6pm at MJS.
If you don’t need extra pies but want to help, you can donate one to MJS teachers through a fun lottery!
We’re also excited to bring back Pies for a Purpose—a wonderful way to support the MJS PTO while helping people facing food insecurity. All donated pies go to nourish.NJ, a nonprofit serving over 1,000 meals every day in Morristown and Dover, working hard to fight hunger, homelessness, and poverty.
This special project is powered by The Grove Project, which helps kids build social skills and community spirit through volunteer work. Some of our own MJS students from the Grove’s Youth Council will be helping lead this effort.
Let’s make the holidays sweeter and kinder—one pie at a time!

In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook (damaged beyond repair) - $365.00
Broken Screen - $90.00
Broken Keyboard - $70.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.
