We had an awesome time celebrating our 8th grade class at the Glow Party on Friday night! The night was filled with dancing, photo booths, dippin dots, snacks and glow! We even had a beautiful rainbow appear mid way through the dance! Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring and planning a night filled with great memories for our 8th grade class!
The final meeting of the Culture Club for this school year was especially fun: the club walked to a local Mediterranean restaurant, Biladi Grill. Students learned a little bit about the food and spices, enjoying a variety of dishes including falafel, labneh (yogurt dip) saksuka (spicy eggplant), falafel, and fuul (fava beans). The group had fun exploring food and culture - and are already thinking about ideas for Culture Club for next school year!
On Thursday afternoon, we hosted our annual Talent Show for the whole school. It was filled with great talent from our students and staff! Congratulations to all of our performers! Thank you to Student Council, Ms. Siso and Ms. Kolinchak for planning an awesome event. The whole school enjoyed every moment of it and it got us ready for the final countdown to the end of the school year!
Students honored the life and legacy of Chris Rosati this week by presenting items as random acts of kindness during our "Butterfly Effect" initiative. Chris spent the final few years of his short life once he found out he had ALS by doing and giving to others to spread kindness. Our students wrote thoughtful mini grants for people in MJS and our community that were reviewed and approved to bring joy and happiness to others by finding a need and filling it. There were smiles for miles as students presented their mini grant items to unsuspecting recipients! Many thanks to the MEF for their collaboration on this most generous grant so that students could fulfill their wishes for others.
In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook - $365.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.

Thank you for your assistance in helping to remind our students about maintaining and handling our Chromebooks in a responsible and safe way.
