On Wednesday April 24 we had the opportunity to celebrate our March Student Leaders of the Month. At the end of each month our teachers choose two students from each team to represent their team as Leaders of the Month. A big congratulations to our Leaders of the Month and for all they bring to our MJS ONE Community on a daily basis. Thank you to these students for being great role models within our building.

On Wednesday our 8th grade ensembles (Band, Chorus, Orchestra) and our Jazz Band participated in an adjudicated performance in the morning. Our High School Music Director served as the adjudicators. Each group performed a few pieces and had an opportunity to work with our high school directors. It was a great opportunity to work on their music as they prepare for the Spring Concert. Afterwards the ensembles took a trip into New York City to see Aladdin on Broadway. A great day was had by all filled with great music and performance!
In honor of Earth Day, the Green Team, Art Club & Culture Club had a joint meeting on Thursday, April 25th. Students heard about the work happening around Madison through the Sustainable Madison Committee from special guest Lisa Jordan, a committee member and professor of environmental studies at Drew University. The Green Team gave everyone a tour of the MJS Courtyard, including new plants, compost bins, and more. New plant labels the Art Club made were put into the ground, calling out the variety of plants from strawberries to daisies. Students also enjoyed a special themed snack of "Dirt Cups" (chocolate pudding, crushed oreos, and gummy worms) while enjoying the MJS Courtyard blooming in spring.
Madison Junior School was excited to participate in "Bring your Child to Work Day" which is hosted on the 4th Thursday of April every year. MJS was proud to support our educators and support staff as they provided a meaningful and exciting experience for their child or children. Staff members' children were welcome to participate in a variety of activities alongside our MJS students throughout the day. Our Peer Leaders played a vital role during the day as they supported and interacted with our guests throughout the day. Thank you to our staff who coordinated an activity during part of the day. Thank you to our PTO for providing snack and a pizza lunch. This day was a true example of our MJS ONE Community!
There is still space to join our new Morning Hoops program at MJS. If you child is interested please click this link to fill out the permission slip. Check out the information on the flyer below. Hope to you see you at Morning Hoops!
In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook - $365.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.
