On Tuesday January 11th we had the opportunity to celebrate our January Student Leaders of the Month. At the end of each month our teachers choose two students from each team to represent their team as Leaders of the Month. A big congratulations to our Leaders of the Month and for all they bring to our MJS ONE Community on a daily basis. Thank you to these students for being great role models within our building.

On Friday February 7th and Monday February 10th, each grade level came together in the Auditorium for the second ReConnection Assembly of the school year. These assemblies happen at the start of each new marking period. This assembly gives us an opportunity to reconnect as a grade level community to review various parts of the school year including our cell phone rule, chromebook care and code of conduct. Within our conversation about the Code of Conduct we reviewed our core expectations of Being Safe, Being Responsible and Being Respectful. In addition students had a chance to take a moment to celebrate with each other with things that are happening in their life. We also introduced our +5 celebration where we acknowledged students who gained +5 points on their final marking period 2 grade as compared to marking period 1 for ELA, Math, Science & Social Studies. It was a great opportunity to come together to connect as we continue to learn and grow within our MJSONE Community!
Green Team had a special guest, Joan Maccari, a member of the Madison Environmental Commision, come in to teach the students about local pollinators and their role in our environment. The students learned about the life cycles of native bees and how they are necessary for our food production. The students then went to the STEM room to build pollinator hotels with Mrs. Maccari and Mrs. Barkin-Baron, our MJS STEM teacher. Also, after collaborating with the MJS Science Department, the students who came to participate earned homework passes or extra credit points for their science classes!
On Tuesday the Student Council packed up the non-perishable food items that were collected during the Soup-er Bowl Food Drive. In a joint effort between student council and peer leaders, our student body collected over 1,700 non-perishable food items. The homeroom winners were: Grade 6, Ms. Derosa, Grade 7, Ms. Hatzie and in Grade 8 Mr. Bovery. Together, these three homerooms collected 722 items. All items were delivered to The Market Street Mission in Morristown. A true example of what it means to be MJSONE!
Our lost and found table continues to gather many items. A big thank you to our office secretary, Ms. Kelly for taking the time to organize these items so we can get them back to their owners. Below is a picture of all the items we currently have in our lost and found. If you notice a item that belongs to your child please have them go to the office to check in with Ms. Kelly before picking up their item. Thank you for your assistance in getting these items back to their owners.

In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook - $365.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.
