Get ready to Waltz into Winter with our upcoming Spirit Week this coming week!
On Tuesday December 10th we had the opportunity to celebrate our November Student Leaders of the Month. At the end of each month our teachers choose two students from each team to represent their team as Leaders of the Month. A big congratulations to our Leaders of the Month and for all they bring to our MJS One Community on a daily basis. Thank you to these students for being great role models within our building.

Congratulations to the entire cast and crew of our Fall Play Production PAN! Their performances were Friday December 6th and Saturday December 7th. It was a great show and all of the performers did an amazing job. Thank you to our Director, Ms. McManus and Assistant Director, Ms. Tobia for their work in bringing this production to life! Our theater department is getting ready for our Spring Musical Annie Jr.!
On Wednesday morning our 8th graders had an opportunity to connect with their 6th grade homerooms through their monthly outreach. The focus was on Holiday Cheer, Teamwork, and Friendship through a spirited game of Pictionary! Peer Leaders also started their lunch bunch program this month, where groups of Peer Leaders join the 6th grade lunch to connect and socialize with their 6th grade buddies.
A huge thank you to our MJS ONE community for their involvement in our Toys for Tots Community Service Project. Together as a community we collected 533 unwrapped toys to help those families who are financially struggling to pay for basic needs. On Thursday we loaded up the toys and delivered them to the Picatinny Arsenal.
A big thank you to our Student Council who took the lead on organizing and coordinating this community service project. Thank you also to Ms. Siso, Ms. Kolinchak and Mr. Sylvester for their part in making this a great success. This is a special moment for MJS where we can celebrate giving back as a community to an important cause. I am proud and grateful for our MJS community. Great work everyone!
Our TREP$ Marketplace was held on Thursday in the MJS Gym and it was a great success! TREP$, short for enTREPreneur$, is a project-based learning program that teaches kids in grades middle school how to start their own businesses. Over the past month our students learned various lessons and applied them as they built their business plans. The whole school community came out to enjoy the TREP$ Marketplace, where our young entrepreneurs launched their businesses together. We had a total of 77 tables with 160 students participating. A big thank you to our TREP$ advisor, Ms. Siso. for her guidance and leadership in providing this great opportunity for our students and community.

In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook - $365.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.

Thank you for your assistance in helping to remind our students about maintaining and handling our Chromebooks in a responsible and safe way.
