On Tuesday November 26th, Jordan Toma came to speak to our whole MJS community. He brought energy, enthusiasm and inspiration around how his struggle became his strength. He engaged our students by telling his story which was very impactful. It was a great connection to our overall MJS ONE goal of being One Inclusive Community Helping Each Other Learn and Grow. Thank to our PTO and the MAASA (Madison Alliance Addressing Substance Abuse) Organization for their generous donation in helping get Jordan Toma at MJS.
On Wednesday November 27th, MJS had their annual Team Building Day. This was an opportunity for each grade level to spend time as a grade engaging in various activities around team building. Our 6th grade stayed at MJS and worked with our high school students on various activities. Our 7th grade traveled to the Madison YMCA where they engaged in a great program of team building activities. Our 8th grade traveled to the Funplex for a morning of exciting activities. I am proud of our students and their work in making the day a success. A big thank you to our entire staff for their part in making the day a success. Thank you to the Madison YMCA, Funplex and our Madison High School Students for their partnership in helping to create a memorable and meaningful Team Building Day for our MJS ONE Community!
During the month of November our Student Council hosted our Annual Turk a Teacher Fundraiser. Students had the opportunity to purchase a feather for a teacher of their choice. At the end of November, the teacher with the most feathers was crowned the winner by wearing a Turkey costume on November 27th. The winner was our 6th grade ELA teacher Ms. Baff!! Thank you to all who participated!
The thank you cards that were created by our students and American Flags that were donated for our Veterans Day Celebration were packed up and delivered to the Morris County VA Clinic last week.
Students have been hard at work in the MJS makerspace. Over the course of the first marking period students made shoes, bridges, prosthetics, mousetrap cars, air skimmers and more! Each competition in the MJS Makerspace involves testing out the design that the students made. As we finished the first marking period we set some new records for MJS and discovered new ideas.
A huge shout out to Maeve O’Conner, Addalynn O’Neill and Brianna Marecki whose bridge held an astonishing 72.8 lbs. For reference this means their bridge held one 50lb bag of rocks, and 5 large science textbooks!
Ava Mazzacano and Allison Visvikis designed and built a bridge that held an impressive 52.6 lbs resulting in their bridge being the second strongest bridge that Madison Junior school has ever seen.
Below you will find some of our 8th graders at MJS testing their brand new robotic, hydraulic or pneumatic prosthetic designs.
Our 6th grade students are working on testing their mouse trap cars. While we do not know who all the winners are yet, a big shout out to Blake and Henrique for breaking the Mousetrap Car speed record with a whopping 2.6 seconds to travel 10 feet. This record only lasted 24 hours before Emma and Anastasia set a new speed record of 2.25 seconds to travel 10 feet. Ezra Lewis and Willam Browning created an amazing car that traveled 49 ft.
As a reminder the Makerspace is open every Wednesday. If you are planning on making your holiday gifts in the makerspace, please leave yourself plenty of time
Our Music Department is gearing up for our Winter Concerts. Mr. Rossi and Mr. Sabatino are working with our 6th Grade Band, getting them ready for their debut performance at Madison Junior School!
Our 6th graders participating in the Floor Hockey unit during Physical Education.
As part of our Veterans Day Celebration we kicked off our Community Service Project Toys for Tots. The basic mission of the Marine Toys for Tots Program is to collect new unwrapped toys and distribute those toys to less fortunate children. For the second year Madison Junior School is running a fundraiser and be a toy drop-off location to help those families who are financially struggling to pay for basic needs. Madison students will assist Morris County families in making sure their children have a magical holiday season. We have extended the collection for a few days so if you are able, please have your child bring a new unwrapped toy to their homeroom teacher next week!
The Scholastic Book Fair will be at MJS this week! Monday-Wednesday students will have the opportunity to shop the Book Fair during their ELA classes or they can stop by after school. The Book Fair will also be at the TREP$ Marketplace this Thursday night from 6:00-8:00pm.

In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook - $365.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.

Thank you for your assistance in helping to remind our students about maintaining and handling our Chromebooks in a responsible and safe way.
