Our TREP$ Marketplace was held on Thursday in the MJS Gym and it was a great success! TREP$, short for enTREPreneur$, is a project-based learning program that teaches kids in grades middle school how to start their own businesses. Over the past month our students learned various lessons and applied them as they built their business plans. The whole school community came out to enjoy the TREP$ Marketplace, where our young entrepreneurs launched their businesses together. We had a total of 42 businesses with 97 students participating. A big thank you to our TREP$ advisor, Ms. Siso. for her guidance and leadership in providing this great opportunity for our students and community.
Kelly Dziak from 4H came to a Green Team meeting and taught the kids about healthy dog diets. We made no-bake dog treats and reviewed what dogs can and cannot eat. Students and teachers brought the treats home and took pictures of their dogs enjoying them. We look forward to Kelly returning to MJS with her trained dogs to go over some simple grooming and training tips!
During the annual MEF Gala, Lunch with the Principal was auctioned. 6th Grader, Olivia Sullivan, was the winner and had the opportunity to have lunch with the Principal and a group of her friends on Friday. We had a great time, great conversation and great food including freshly popped popcorn!

In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook (damaged beyond repair) - $365.00
Broken Screen - $90.00
Broken Keyboard - $70.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.
