On November 4th, our 8th Grade Peer Leaders had their first outreach with our 6th grade. Each Peer Leader has been assigned to a 6th grade homeroom and has four 6th grade buddies from the homeroom. Our 6th Grade Buddy system is a special part of our Peer Leader program as it gives the opportunity for our Peer Leaders to engage with our 6th graders throughout the school year helping to support their journey in 6th grade. On November 4th our Peer Leaders had the chance to meet their homeroom as well as meet their 6th grade buddies. Everyone had a great time! Its a great MJSONE Partnership!
We had an beautiful Veterans day celebration on Tuesday November 12th! Over 30 Veterans were in attendance and we had the opportunity to honor those who have served our country. Students showcased their gratitude through music and heartfelt speeches. In addition, our Student Council kicked off our first school wide community service project of the year, Toys for Tots. This assembly was a meaningful reminder of the importance of service and patriotism, leaving everyone inspired and reflective.
Prior to our Veterans Day Assembly, our students participated in a Essay/Poem contest. The topic was "What does it mean to be a Veteran?" Alison Ostberg (6th Grade), Jack Farina (7th Grade), Lilly Schirmer (8th Grade) and Clarissa Kong (8th Grade) were our winners. They had the opportunity to present their essay/poem during our assembly. We are so proud of our students for the heartfelt messages they brought to our assembly in honor of our Veterans. As part of the contest, each student received a certificate, $5 McCools Gift Card and $5 to the MJS snack shack.
On Thursday November 14th we had the opportunity to celebrate our October Student Leaders of the Month. At the end of each month our teachers choose two students from each team to represent their team as Leaders of the Month. A big congratulations to our Leaders of the Month and for all they bring to our MJS One Community on a daily basis. Thank you to these students for being great role models within our building.

Culture Club celebrated (a belated) Diwali this week. We learned what Diwali is all about, how it's celebrated differently within India and around the world, and tried some special Diwali snacks. We also learned a few dance moves and ended the meeting with a dance party to Bollywood music. Special thanks to Aks Behari, owner of Cakeaholic-I Want my Cake & Eat it too, who shared her culture, homemade cardamom mouse, and gave a special clay tea light holder for members to bring home.
Our Green Team has had a great start to the school year working in our Courtyard. Last year they planted various seeds, one of them being pumpkin seeds. The students were excited to pick the first pumpkin this week! It was signed by all Green Team members and placed in the main office for all to enjoy!
Over the past two months our lost and found table has gathered many items. A big thank you to our office secretary, Ms. Kelly for taking the time this week to organize these items so we can get them back to their owners. Below are pictures of all the items we currently have in our lost and found. If you notice a item that belongs to your child please have them go to the office during their cycle period and check in with Ms. Kelly before picking up their item. Thank you for your assistance in getting these items back to their owners.

In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook - $365.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.

Thank you for your assistance in helping to remind our students about maintaining and handling our Chromebooks in a responsible and safe way.
