MJS Centennial Celebration
MJS Centennial Celebration
After 100 years, 4 months, and 11 days, the time capsule that was hidden in the 1924 cornerstone was successfully removed on Wednesday October 23rd. We always knew we were going to get it out but we weren’t exactly sure how. A big thank you to our Board of Education, Superintendent, Ms. Shanley and Director of Facilities, Mr. Eschmann for supporting this project from day one. We had various contractors out over the past year to help determine the best way to gain access to the time capsule. A big thank you to Carl Lombardi from C. Lombardi Construction and the Mason Local 4 from Fairfield who successfully removed the time capsule on Wednesday. On Thursday morning we opened the time capsule and removed all of the items. An awesome moment in history!
The 2024 Cubing Club created this awesome MJS 100 Rubix Cube Mural in honor of our School Centennial. Thank you to the MEF for their support in providing the funding for this mural. Thank you also to our adivsor, Ms. Spangler and STEM teacher Ms. Barkin-Baron for their support in making this all happen! Congratulations to our Rubix Cube members for creating a piece of artwork that will be enjoyed for generations to come. The plan is to install this on the wall in the front lobby for everyone to see!
On Thursday we had our annual 7th and 8th grade Halloween Dance. We had a great turn out and all the students looked great in their costumes. There was dancing in the gym, a photo booth, snacks and some games for students to enjoy. Thank you to Ms. Siso, Ms. Kolinchak and the Student Council for planning and organizing a wonderful event where our students had the opportunity to come together to socialize outside of the school day. Thank you also to our PTO for their support and involvement in making the event a success. I am proud of our students in demonstrating what it means to be MJS ONE and having a great time together. We are already looking forward to our Schoolwide Winter Dance in February!
Our 8th grade students in Health had the chance to participate in a BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) goggle driving simulation, which connected to their current unit.
All 7th Grade ELA classes took a trip to the Bottle Hill/Hillside Cemetery (across the street from MJS) on Wednesday. They utilized this excursion as the inspiration for an mini-historical fiction writing project. This outing is a guided tour led by local historian and Madison resident Scott Spelker, who shared information about Madison’s early settlers and notable headstones.
On Saturday morning, we celebrated the Madison Junior School turning 100 years old!! The official ceremony began at 10:30 AM and featured several student speakers, Mayor Robert Conley, President of the Board of Education, Ms. Sarah Fisher, Student Council President Atharva Aiyer, Student Council Vice President, Eva Bolstad, PTO President, Ms. Irene Rodin, MEF President, Ms. Marlena Fass, Principal, Mr. Frank Perrone and Superintendent, Ms. Danielle Shanley. The 8th notes orchestra and the chorus performed. Guests had the opportunity to walk around the museum that was created for the event, check out the rarest Fire Truck in the world and visited our student booths selling MJS Merch. We also had many local town organizations join us to share in the celebration. It was a once in a 100-year experience! Thank you to everyone who came out to support this exciting moment in history for Madison and the Madison Junior School. A big thank you to Mr. Stephen Finkelstein for bringing his vision to life and creating a memorable event for all.
Over the past month and a half our lost and found table has gathered many items. A big thank you to our office secretary, Ms. Kelly for taking the time this week to organize these items so we can get them back to their owners. Below are pictures of all the items we currently have in our lost and found. If you notice a item that belongs to your child please have them go to the office during their cycle period and check in with Ms. Kelly before picking up their item. Thank you for your assistance in getting these items back to their owners.
If you know of someone who is either currently or has served in the Armed Forces of the United States, please encourage them to help share their experiences with our students by having them attend our Veterans Day Program on November 12th at MJS. Please have them RSVP by sending an email directly to Mr. Sylvester

In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook - $365.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.

Thank you for your assistance in helping to remind our students about maintaining and handling our Chromebooks in a responsible and safe way.
Dear MJS Community,
Welcome back to the 2024/2025 school year! On behalf of the MJS PTO Committee, we are thrilled to embark on another amazing year at Madison Junior School with all of you. Your unwavering support last year made a tremendous impact on our school community, and we are excited to continue building on that success together.
1. PTO Dues

These efforts would not have been possible without your dedication and commitment to our school. The contributions you make through PTO Dues directly impact the quality of programs and resources we can provide to our students and staff, helping us create the best possible environment for learning and growth. Our direct link for dues is attached below, we greatly appreciate your contributions.
Suggested dues:
$50 for 6th & 7th
$75 for 8th
